I wonder how good his German is?
Given that he is already fluent in English, Spanish, Catalan and Italian, then it probably won't take him long to learn German

You probably read that in an English newspaper?

According to the Spanish press, La Liga has the highest viewing figures in the world.

IFFHS: La liga Española es la más fuerte del mundo

Oh and Barça have nearly 40 million Facebook fans, Real Madrid have 35m - Man U only have 30m.

Yes its normally the people who spend all day watching Sky TV and reading the Sun who come out with these opinions

And it's usually the Spanish players who make the PL games worth watching!

Instead he chooses a team topping the league by nine points, again pretty hard to fail really.

Unfortunately most of them end up back in La Liga with their tails between their legs.

It's the countries and fans worldwide who fork out most money who decide what they want to watch.

The Prem wins easily on that account, (not facebook ), little wonder other countries complain they can't compete on players wages.

There's only ever 2 teams competing season after season in the Spanish league, boring, boring, boring in the extreme.

When did Spain last get 3 teams into the last 4 in the Champions league for example ?

Never have and likely never will, unless there are some very drastic changes which seems highly unlikely.

Well, if you think supporting sport is about spending money, I suppose you're right.

FYI La Liga is not a two-horse race this year, Barça are way ahead of the field but Atletico are ahead of Real Madrid and Betis isn't far behind. Malaga held Barça to a draw at Camp Nou in the Copa this week so they are in with a good chance.

As for the Champions League, I've no idea. Spain had two teams in the semis last year and the year before, and Spanish sides have won it 7 times in the past 20 years compared to UK sides 4 times.

When did England last win the World Cup or European cup? I wasn't even born so you'll have to remind me!!

Well there you go, just another excellent example of what I mentioned.

Only 2 Spanish teams have ever won it.
No prizes for guessing who.

As against 5 different sides from England !!!

As for national sides, Spain have a very good team now, but until recent years they've been the biggest failures of all time in international football, all things considered.

Spain have been the biggest failures of all time, despite England consistently grasping defeat from the jaws of victory and going out in the quarter finals? You are clutching at straws now!!

Spain were a team who were usually expected to do very well, but repeatedly bottled it and as a result rarely if ever reached the quarter or semi stage until recent years.

I think underestimate the scale of Spain's achievements. They won first one Euro championship, then theWorld Cup, then the following Euro championship. To put that into perspective, I don't expect to see England reach a final once, before I die (altho it would be nice to see). It is not even as tho Spain were lucky - in the World Cup Holland just went out to kick theSpanish, as they knew they couldn't compete in footballing terms. Italy were meant to have a better chance, but they were thrashed four one.

Not true at all, they won the European Championships in 1964, so actually they got their hands on a major international trophy before England did

They also lost in the final of the European Championships in 1982

So even before their last 3 championship wins they still have a better record than England in major championship finals. No major footballing nation has such a bad record as England.

As for the Champions League/European Cup and Uefa Cup. La Liga clubs have the best record over the past 10-15 years versus any other nation. Eight teams have appeared in major European finals

Champions League winners = Real Madrid & Barcelona
Runners up = Valencia
Uefa Cup winners = Valencia, Sevilla, Atletico Madrid
Uefa Cup runners up = Espanyol, Alaves, Atletic Bilbao
