Much of Dr Zhivago was shot in Guardix, in Granada. Another great film, Lawrence of Arabia (same director, David Lean), also shot locally, in Almería. In fact, with The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, quite a few top films owe Spain a debt.
Other favourites: Caberet, Oliver and West Side Story - great music, production and stories.

Mostly Madrid, Salamanca, and Soria according to this Wiki link,

.... much as shown in a documentary I watched regarding it's filming.

I recall the film crew were holed up in Madrid for quite a while waiting for the weather to change, for the worse, as they had counted on having snow in the Soria area, but it was late in arriving.

Strange, the link doesn't open from this site ?...... but works ok by googling Dr Zhivago Soria.

This site lists Almería based films (seems particularly pleased with 'Conan the Barbarian), and offers Dr Zhivago as being filmed in Guadix

I would doubt its accuracy, especially having watched the filming of the film being produced, clearly showing the various locations, unless possibly it was one very minor scene or on the other hand maybe they're just looking for a bit publicity.

I was around Almeria and Granada quite a while ago and saw some of the other film locations, but can't once recall mention of Zhivago.

In addition to Soria, Salamanca and Madrid I seem to recall they did a little in N.Europe, I think it was Finland.

A great list of films is developing here. Sorry that I only responded to the first few posts, not around for a few days so lost track.

I think that my most viewed films have been Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, The Full Monty, Mama Mia and Jungle Book (my excuse is that I was the eldest of 4, had 4 children and 4 grandchildren and of course I am pathetic).

I watched "In Bruges" on TV last night and wasn't expecting it to be my cuppa tea but loved it! Plus I now want to visit Bruges...

Started to watch this a few weeks ago but the language at the beginning put me off, does it improve or is it the same all the way through.

Been to Bruges, it is beautiful and well worth a visit.
