The real British McCoy should be readily available when the new SPS agreement comes into force.

Sorry to subject you to this rag but it's worth a read and the comments are priceless. Self awareness is definitely not their thing. They actually use the term "UK subject" in the third paragraph. Hilarious!

I think Gibraltar should “go it alone” ie dependant, it seems that is the way to go and what by the sounds of it most Gibraltarians want anyway, obviously the British would need to “pull” their interests away and move to other British territories.

Gibraltarians would love to go it alone but unfortunately the Spanish do not believe in self determination

So here we go again - British nationals need to seek Spanish permission to enter a British overseas territory. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cgjz1x5e1xyo

I don't think I need my neighbour's permission to enter my own home.

Only if you arrive by air at Gibraltar Airport from outside Schengen. If you travel by land to Gibraltar, you just walk straight through, as the land border is no more and you are already in Schengen.

Are you Gibraltarian or a resident of Gibraltar? Then you don't need anyone's permission.

As others have said, if you are Gibraltarian or a resident of Gibraltar (red card holder?) then lucky you, you have de facto EU freedom of movement and you don't need to be subjected to EES at the airport or seaport in Gibraltar.

Most Gibraltarians and Spanish cross border workers are very happy with this deal because they were completely shafted by Brexit.

Great deal for everyone, especially after the clusterf#$% titled "brexit" that was forced upon Gibraltar by the clowns in power in Westminster at the time. In fact 95.9% of voters in Gibraltar voted to remain, let that sink in...

Kudos to them for working out a deal with the Spanish authorities. Everyone's lives will be much easier as a result of this.

Well said. I'm a frequent visitor to Gibraltar and the vast majority of people think it's a good deal. Gibraltarians and Spanish cross border workers deserve it after all the dreadful uncertainty they have faced since the wretched Brexit. Gibraltarians voted to Remain in the EU by 96% so they also deserve de facto freedom of movement.

Fair enough if the Gibraltarians are happy with it. They have their own immigration system so they should decide.

It just feels slightly odd that non-Brits (i.e. foreign aliens) can now have a say on whether you can return to your own country or enter another British territory. First the ETA and now this de facto Schengen arrangement.

I don't think there are any problems for Gib residents returning. It's all about undesirable non-EU people entering the Schengen area.

Gibraltar was part of the EU and always wanted to remain part of it. Especially Schengen. The brexit betrayal co-sponsored by the kremlin (and traitors like Farage) threw everything into disarray, so it's heartwarming to hear that Gibraltarians have found a legal solution to keep their freedoms relevant in 2026.

Exactly. It's all about keeping undesirable non-EU people OUT of the EU. Great deal for everyone involved.

Aussies and Kiwis are non-EU nationals, and so are the Canadians, just saying.
