Police find 10 million Euro of Astapa money in Andorra
The accounts were in the names of Pedro López family; he was the Manager of Town Planning Department in the Estepona Town Hall
Police investigating the Astapa corruption case in Estepona Town Hall say they have found a bank account in Andorra containing more than 10 million € belonging to the ex Manager of the Town Planning Department in Estepona Pedro López. He was in the post during the coalition between the Partido Estepona and the Socialists between 2003 and 2007.
Diario Sur reports that sources close to the case say that police have found the money in accounts in the names of members of Pedro López family. Police think the money is the fruit of the backhanders paid by construction businesses in exchange for the concession of licences to build.
The accounts have now been blocked and details of the case have been sent to the authorities in Andorra. It has been revealed that several members of Pedro López family were arrested and questioned last week and some searches have been carried out.
Reporting restrictions in the case are due to end on Tuesday, but this may be extended by another month.
There are some 68 people indicted in the Astapa case including the ex Mayor of Estepona, Antonio Barrientos and eight other councillors

It would be good if it went to compensate all who have had their homes destroyed or lives blighted by corrupt officials That however is highly unlikely.
