Default GAS BOTTLES

Having just purchased a new BBQ recently we had to get a new gas bottle as it was Propane fitting rather than the old Butane!! Can anyone advise me in which gas bottles they use in the Costa Colida / Blanca regions please as we are taking this new BBQ with us when we move?

Don't bother bringing your UK bottle here to Spain as the fitting is different and you will not be able to exchange it. Once here go to your local supplier and sign a contract, they may want to inspect the house too.

After years of believing them all to be different, we found out that whether it is yellow, orange or the metal ones - they all had the same blooming connection. Some were just better for use in summer, others more suitable for winter

You can also usually buy empty gas bottles on flea markets, expect to pay around 20-25 euro, saves having to pay for a house inspection etc,
Regulators are around 12-15 euro,

Butano but your BBQ will normally run on either as they are very similar.

Yes in Spain they are the same, but as we said the UK ones are different.

Butane Regulator is a different model to the Propane Regulator and I wouldn't fancy swapping Regulator Heads due to safety reasons but if in Spain as you say it is Butane then basically my new BBq will be of no use!!!!

Butane and Propane have similar calorific values so no issue, and both run at either 32 or 36 mb,cant remember which, your going to have to change your UK regulator to a spanish one which ever gas you use,

I have one bottle of butane for cooking and one for a gas torch. The regulators are only different in how much gas they let thru. There are at least two types of reg, look carefully at the box and see what they are for.

I have a UK caravan which had the Blue calor gas cylinders on it and I changed it to Repsol bottle/regulators....3 years ago and use the caravan regulary, no issue.

OK, let's see if I can remember my old Corgi stuff. Using the wrong gas (ie butane instead of propane might result in it not burning 100% correctly, but as it's a barbecue, what's the worse that can happen? The burners not lasting as long?

I would look at the regulators in Leroy Merlin or somewhere like that and make an intelligent guess. Ask an assistant. If your Spanish isn't up to that, write down a simple sentence on paper or learn something like this.

Hola, puede Ud. ayudarme? Tengo un barbecoa y necessito un nuevo regulador.
Que tipo sea el mejor?

If I had to guess, I would just get the biggest, and then you can turn it down. You sure as hell can't turn a small one up beyond its limits.

The BBQ will be ok, you will just need a Spanish butane bottle and regulator.
