Need to furnish a 2 bed apartment, has anybody got any info on Furnishings, packs seem to be the easy option, if so any recommendations? Any to avoid etc. Purple Parrot have been recommended anyone used them?

Christine,

Hello again. We are currently in that process and I started a thread a couple of weeks ago about furnishing a Rago.

Here are a few tips we have picked up along the way

1. Mossie Screens- M2M Blinds in Portugal. Good Product and good price.
2. White Goods- The Elec Stores in Ayamonte offer good service and price.
3. Air Con- Climasol VIP in Ayamonte are competitive. Appx €2000 euros installed
3. Furniture Packs- We are looking at Furniture Express for some of it. They are based in Marbella but will deliver and install. Full pack €6900.
4. You can of course source the Furniture locally and there are 1 or 2 on this site, Andy S is one, who have done that and got good prices and obviously a very individual look. Below are some of his suggestions

Dining table and chairs
EUROMOVEIS
On the main road (EN125) near Altura. On the left hand side if driving from Vila Real towards Tavira.

TV/Bookcase/Display unit, coffee table and lamp tables
T-MOVEL MOVEIS
This again is on the EN125 and is near to Tavira. It is on the rhs just before the roundabout for Cabanas and Benamor Golf. This is the place that did the made to measure unit for us.

Sofas
MUEBLES SOTO DE AYAMONTE
Avda Andalucia, 29
Ayamonte
This is on the road as you leave Ayamonte heading for Isla Canela. They have a warehouse full of furniture and quite often have deals on. Case of looking around. If you see their shop on your right, take the next turn (I think) and the warehouse is down there near a Renault garage (again i think!!).

Beds
We made a mistake here and bought from Frontera (now closed) and paid over the odds but we were very keen to get British mattresses so decided to go with them.

Cutlery/China
CASA CARAVELA
Zona Industrial - Vila Real
This is the "seconds" shop for Caravela in the main street at Vila Real. If they are seconds you'd need a magnifying glass to find out why. We managed to buy nearly everything here for the huge price of €113. Brilliant value for good quality goods.

Hope this helps a bit

We looked at packs when we furnished but often found that we would like one element, say the sofa, and hate something else. In the end we did it all ourselves from local shops and bought all the bedding and kitchen utensils and odds and ends from Ikea in Seville. Curtains I bought in England and brought over. There is a shop called Casa (2 branches in Gran Plaza shopping centre in Tavira and anther at the Forum in Faro) we like as well for "trimmings". It took time but we had fun and got what we wanted as and when. as long as you have beds and white goods you are good to go. the shops in Ayamonte were great for white goods - better prices than Carrefour(in Cartaya) and prompt (like same day) delivery and installation.

It would be good to support the local shops, and you´ll get to know some people as well. Muebles Mateos (in the center+another shop direction Isla Canela) speak english and can furnish the whole place according to your wishes. On the industrial estate you can find Claramar Furniture, not my taste at all. And if you like colonial, on the same estate is a huge shop from Alexmania which has a lot to offer.
