I also normally buy them at Mercadonna but have now found that the little grocers around the corner is selling large, juicy sweet ones. So instead of buying them once a week when we drive over to the next town we are having them more often.

Has anyone ever had pepper on their strawberries, I knew people in Cornwall who always did and I never thought to ask them why.

There's plenty of poor (IMO) quality citrus in Spain, just as there is in the UK. Furthermore they have some mandarine/clementine cultivars that are simply tasteless. Some tho, are excellent. Citrus really need to be picked at the right moment and eaten promptly.

We have just had a couple of avocados off our tree, and by the gods they are nice. No rotten bits to eat round, and with a far nicer taste and texture too.

No, but I have had chilli with mango (by accident), and pretty good it was too.

I used to know someone who spread mustard on his toast before adding marmalade.....

I'm afraid I'm not really a good judge, I don't eat nearly enough fruit.

I'm really picky when it comes to certain things like fruit. I do really like to eat stuff which is fresh, and at its peak of flavour, taste and texture.

Always hated oranges prior to living in Spain. We have orange growers all around us so have bags and bags of them given to us, they are all delicious but one particular grower seems to have juicier, sweeter ones than the others. Prefer to make juice rather than eat them but must say that they are wonderful. Couple of weeks ago we were given blood oranges but were not keen on the taste.

Is that because fresh fruit is difficult to find and/or expensive in Hungary?

We are talking about Spain here.

Hungary is not as good for fruit in my opinion, though limited types are available.

Hungary is in the past for me now, for the time being.

Shame you aren't near Chiclana. The English butcher there makes a pork pie that is out of this world.

My friend's Father had a finca close to Polop and they had groves of valencianos, best oranges I have ever tasted. Had some nice ones in S. Africa too. We had an advocado tree in Spain, grown from a stone and at least 3 metros high. Looked really healthy but never had a single advocado from it.:(

Not personally, but we were round at some friends on Sunday who were saying they like pepper on strawberries.....they are from up north too so it's not just a Cornish thing.
I like pepper on my smoked salmon but can't imagine putting it on fruit. :)
