Fresons

Just returned from carrefour with a 2Kg box of fresons for 1-50, seems a little early for the cheap ones still I am not complaining.

Technically big strawberries..
Fresa is strawberry, so fresón is a big one.

The big ones are not as tasty as the small natural ones. Most coming out of huelva are genetically modified and are hard and white, taste of water!

We always leave ours untill they are deep red to the end. If they have a white end, it means it isn't ripe, so small wonder that they don't taste good.

They are sold regularly on the CDS with the white end, not that I have bought them, just a tasless mass. Most of the strawberries in Spain are grown in Huelva under plastic. Genetically modified in the aim for ever larger strawberries. They are grown under plastic without soil, pumped with chemicals and contain pesticides which have been banned. Until about 10 years ago strawberries were not available in Spain until late May, they were small and sweet and tasted wonderful.

I much prefer th smaller ones and not the fresones, they sometimes are a bit watery, as in not as much taste as the smaller ones
