Any strawberries I have had from Huelva have been red all over, ripe and delicious ! big boxes of them used to be given to us and all superb, that many we invented ways to use them .... ohh did EC come up with a cracker in crushed strawberries with Lithuanian vanilla vodka ( the best !) over crushed ice and coconut milk

I do not wish to be controversial or start a uk/spanish debate but UK strawberries are far better.

The ones I've bought in supermarkets here have been very poor, especially compared to those from the UK though I grew a few in the garden which were slightly better.
I expect the long stayers in Spain have forgotten what real strawberries taste like.

Not at all. When I was given my plants, I was told not to eat the first fruits as they would be woody. I thought that was bollocks, to be honest, but it has turned out to be quite true. The first ones were a bit woody and not so nice. Quite disappointing to be true, but the ones we are getting now are much nicer. I've always heard it said that those strawberries grown at the far north of their range are supposed to be the best, however I must admit that I have had some very disappointing Scottish ones. I suspect because they were picked too early.

I understand raspberries fetch quite a price in Spain (correct me if I'm wrong). Grow all over deserted pathways in Scotland.. I suspect certain berries grow better in northern climates. I can't speak for strawberries as I went off them many years ago, and I don't think it was down to genetic engineering either.

Very disappointing and lacking the flavour of those in the UK.
I wonder if they are any better in areas such as Galicia where the climate and conditions may suit them better ?

The wild ones we used to pick in the north of England were quite delicious and used to make a terrific blackberry and apple pie!

I suspect that they are a fruit that like the colder climate....unlike me, I prefer the warmth.

There are some large bushes growing by the roundabout of a busy road at Churriana, they have lots of fruit in the autumn but I don't much fancy eating them with all the pollution that must be on them.

Rasberries seem to taste awful in all Europe, probably intensive growing methods. Never seen blackberries growing in Spain. I have picked them in Farnham park (which is like a forest in parts) and have got about 3 kilos in 15 mins. They make lovely jam
Strawberries in Spain taste best around the end of May when the naturally grown ones come in the shops, small, sweet and delicious
