Flies, mozzies etc

We have very little problems with mozzies, but go down to the village at evening and you would be eaten alive. They breed where there is open water. I would uggest you think about when you choose where to live.
Avon skin so softly is used by the squadies and it seems to work pretty well as a deterant.

In Galicia September is known as the month of the flies - and it was bad this year. The sticky things that hang from the ceiling are useless. Mossies are not a big problem where we are. But I do know horse owners who cannot put their horses out during the day in the summer because of the flies. The horses are kept stabled in the day and let out in the evening because of the flies.

Do you have any tips for keeping the flies away outside? (And wasps - a major nuisance when you're eating!)[/QUOTE]
Our verandah table area smells like a hippy commune most of the summer - incense, citronella candles, you name it. I find if we put four incense sticks, one each end of the table & one each end underneath (the wind never seems to blow in the same direction for longer than3 minutes!) We largely avoid bites.
NB anyone else had hornets this year? This was our first time of seeing them - similar to British, they kept flying into our outside lights & frying themselves

hi all before we moved out here we had a 4day trip with a***s to see houses we wanted finca`s/ rustic they wanted to show us new villas/flats anyhow one old house they showed us, on the porch all round the edge were these little bags of water (the type you would win a goldfish in at the fair) and when we asked we was told the old girl who owned the house used to hang them up to keep away the flies and mozzies. how we laughed at that ????. when we moved out here in 2004 and flies and mozzies were a pest ,after trying all products we remembered the old girl and filled up a load of sandwich bags , and hung them round the porch , and guess what they actually work . our neighbour explained the fly/mozzie comes to the house ,sees the bags which magnify him 10-20 times his size turn tail and run try it costs about price of 4-5 sandwich bags 0.20 cents 1 ltr water (free from well)
