He could be just the guy the mother of some Spanish friends is looking for!
She lives above a bar in Barcelona, according to her it's unbearable, and despite being on the market for ages, she can't shift it. It would be my idea of hell!

The cafe across the street opened at 6 a.m. and I was awakened by the sound of the slot machine which played a catchy little ditty. I used to get up and watch the early risers drinking brandy and pacharan from our balcony.
Wonderful.
I still catch myself humming that tune from time to time.

That reminds me of the first place I stayed in Spain in 1980 - in a small hostal in the main street in Santa Cruz de La Palma.

1979 Benidorm, hotel with most rooms located above the post office, so what with the 1 or 2 am rubbish bin collection from the bins across the road, the nightclubs that stayed open to 3am, there was also the 4am incoming mail delivery and the 5.30am exodus of delivery vehicles to the outlying villages finalised by the town deliveries leaving at about 6.30.
my daughter was born the following year, surprised I ever had the energy after the sleepless nights.

It can be very noisy in the Spanish countryside too, barking dogs, bikes, not to mention the hunters
I could never live in an apartment or an attached house either. I am not noise friendly! We live rural on a private Lane but there are other houses too even though they are all well separated by large gardens. Wouldn't like to be isolated and there is a shop, Pub and Restaurant within walking distance....need a torch to get back though
Liked our location in Marbella. Campo outside back garden as far as the eye could see but able to walk to beach and everything. Most of the neighbours worked so not partying like you get with some areas. Not much traffic as the road didn't lead to anywhere. We did hear the cockerels but I liked to listen to them if I woke up in the night. I suppose we got used to them. My grandfather who was Spanish bought a place in the centre of Marbella when he was old, right on the Paseo
He loved it
