Default First Aid

How many ex-pats have a knowledge of First Aid?
If "yes", how much knowledge? If "no", why not?

Well done, genegenie, continue the good work! I would expect that to be part of your job description. Anyone else, outside of the medical/emergency services, who has First Aid training/knowledge?

I have, started when I was about 12 with the Red Cross after school and continued throughout my working life due to the jobs that I had. The last training I went on was in 2006 so bit rusty but could get by because it is so ingrained in my head now.

I had to have First Aid at work last year when I employed people.

Do people realise however that it needs to be refreshed ever so often to keep it up to date?

Rosemary, your training certificate should be renewed every 3 years (I believe)? CPR refresher courses are given every 6 months, too. Does your ayuntamiento offer first aid courses?
However, as you say, it is ingrained in your mind after so many years. Since 2006, I believe the CPR ratio has changed from 15 chest compressions to 2 rescue breaths, to 30:2.
Having said all that, a safe response to any first aid situation is better than none at all.
P.S. I see others have posted, too. Well done, KO and RM!

Its just funny to hear people say they have a first aid certificate and then go on to say they did it for the scouts or DoE!

My OH runs a pub and has to take a refresher every year.

DoE = anaphylaxis, seizures, head injuries, etc.
pubs = CHOKING! etc.
p.s. pubs = bar stool shoulder dislocation or #

I did my PADI in Australia when I was about 18/19, but I couldn't do a thing now and cant even remember anything about it.

Pubs could be heart attacks as well, in fact that's one of the things they HAVE to cover as it is quite common she is told!!
