Is this year particularly bad?

I've just seen this on the news - I think this year IS worse than usual - there has been so little rain anywhere for such a very long time

The fires are in the countryside around us again. Our town is covered in ash and the smoke smell is awful. The fires are still not out and we know many people who have been evacuated from their homes.

All we can see from our house is smoke....such beautiful countryside and wildlife has been lost again.

At the moment the problem area appears to be Pedralba....a very international community.

My thoughts are with all those living in that area, from the photos I've seen it must be a very scary situation for all living there.

Someone from Vilamarxant said they could see the plumes of smoke and even flames, and that was when the fire was in Chulilla :-(

We are in Lliria.Lots of friends have been evacuated and it seems the fires are still out of control probably due to the high winds at the moment. Many roads have been blocked off so people cant get home again. Very worrying for all concerned.

I see they've evacuated some of Pedralba also now, that's a big area to be affected. I imagine the roads are chaotic over there.

I'm looking out of my window here in the UK at the rain thinking it must be strange wishing it would rain for a change.

A lot of roads have been closed off. TV news says its now 10km long and is uncontrollable at the moment because of the very high winds....and is heading towards Vilamarxant....

We are OK where we live (I think) because we are in the actual town. But we have a great view across the mountains so can kind of guage its movements.

Very scary with constant ash and burnt pine needles dropping from the sky....just waiting to hear more from the people we know who have been evacuated.

Lots of the fire has been put out but there is still a large fire burning around the Pedralba/Vilamarxant area. The high winds are not going to help in controlling it again.

There are still friends who I havent heard from yet.Information is so difficult to come by but the meteo caudete facebook page has been great for regular updates.

There was also a fire yesterday in the Ribaroja area of Valencia which is quite near to the airport.

Lets hope the last of the fires can be put out today.
