I'm moving to mijas costa in sept/oct time, I cannot speak Spanish yet and was wondering if anyone knows the best broadband provider and if fibre optic is in Spain?

Yes FO is in Spain, but only for certain city locations
go to Movistar.es and then follow the FO link, you will have to fill in a search box for your location to then find out if you are so lucky.
I am just outside Granada, which does have partial FO, but unable to get it even though all roads are fully made up.

if FO is a "must have" then you may have to move to a location already fitted.
IIRC Mijas costa is still quite hilly

I tried that - it said I could have 100mb but we are in the Campo and the maximum possible is 3mb.

I wouldn't trust the results - it used to be accurate, but it seems it is no longer so.

A call to Movistar might be a safer bet.
