As Concierge for the Spanish section of BE I would like to say hello and welcome.
BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.
Please let me know if you need any further help.

If you search for the Cheaper Long Ferry crossing thread in the Ayamonte Club forum on here there is lots of detail there and a way to get 10% discount explained at post 19.

Not satisfied with free prescriptions, free bus pass, free tv licence, winter fuel allowance, free oyster cards, free university education (still), mortgage interest paid, and god knows what other freebies, you now want discounted ferry travel as well?
If only the ones that actually pay your pension could get some of the same, you know, the younger ones in low paid employment (if they can even find a job), with huge student loans to pay off, with record house prices forcing them to pay inflated rent to BTL's. Now if only they could get discounted ferry travel so they could sail off to somewhere warm for the winter......
Ignore me I'm having a bad day....

I will absolutely ignore you. Whatever happened to respect? It might have offended you but very seriously I cannot see anything wrong with the posting. With your posting I have contempt.

Well throughout our lifetimes we have both lost good friends in their 20's to 60's, most of them having not lived long enough to claim any of the so called goodies. We feel duty bound to live long enough to claim some of their share as well as ours.

I don't know about that, one of my son's mates is an RAF pilot, another is a police officer and one is a school teacher, not a lot of 'working till they drop' there. His partner is a qualified occupational therapist, whilst he is aiming to do similar, it's my wife and I with a joint 99 years of work under our belts that will leave him laughing all the way to the bank when he inherits our estate.

I know a couple of ex-teachers, retired at 55 after 25 years work with a 20k pension every year.
Try explaining to them that their expected 30 year retirement just doesn't add up. Try explaining that a private sector worker on similar money would be lucky to get 5k a year.
Better hope your son is prepared to look after you in your old age otherwise it's the taxman that will be laughing all the way to the bank.

Isn´t it fantastic how these things are provided for the retired. More of it I say
