featherbum is getting married!!
Some of you may have seen me floating about here...
And i have just been proposed to in Mexico by my lovely english man and of course accepted...
so here comes the difficult bit- spanish wedding or english wedding!!??
But the main reason for my post in to see if anyone can help with this (if the wedding is to happen in england):
i am baptised as roman catholic and richard isnt baptised at all,
i have always wanted a church wedding so...
can we do it with Rich not being baptised?
If not could we baptise him...?
and most importantly-
we dont want to marry in the town where we live as we dont like it- is it possible to get married in another church outside our parish (i think thats what is called) as we'd like to do it maybe somewhere in the countryside such as the costwolds area...?
maybe we can offer the priest some money 'to repair his roof' if you get what i mean
any info wold be appreciated as i am not sure where to start!!!

Split the difference between English and Spanish- get married in Gibraltar! Maybe a wedding in the COE Holy Trinity Cathedral Gibraltar...I bet their roof may need repair!

Maybe you should consider a church wedding in your home town in Spain and then a blessing in England

Have been to a few blessings, very much like a wedding service, but the wedding is blessed. Our daughter and Husband had a blessing in Los Bolichos over here, as it was nearer than Mexico lots of family and friends came, had a garden reception etc., and all the people who could not make it to Mexico enjoyed a second wedding so to speak.
The other plus side is our daughter could wear her wedding dress a second time!

People not come!!? To San Sebastian!?!?? You nuts??
As you know, I got married here in October and half the guests were from Scotland and England. Everyone came (bar one, but I told you why!). Just explain to them the difference between the meal they will eat here and what they’ll get back in the UK. Problem is you then cannae get rid of them – half of them are coming back again this year for a 1-year anniversary pintxo crawl!! Send them this article and watch them book up…

Plus, you now have direct flights from stansted to Biarritz, Bilbao and Vitoria. I can recommend some places to stay, I know a fantastic hostal which is central and is by far the nicest, cleanest and friendliest in town – and is no more expensive.
Yes, you can get married in a church here without having been baptised and without being a catholic (I did!). But this is up to the discretion of the priest and Rich may have to agree to bringing any kids up in the catholic faith and to baptising them. I was at a wedding in Navarre this weekend and the priest requested that both parties took confirmation, so it does depend on the priest. If you are Catholic, and you want to get married in a church here you will be able to find one that will allow you to do so, as long as Rich says the right things – talks about love, respect, family etc.
One thing the priest did insist on here was that my OH was piped in and out by a kilted bagpiper!! The locals didn’t know what hit them!!!

Congratulations
You could have a civil wedding in UK and a church wedding in Spain. It used to be traditional to marry in the brides parish so would this be the same in Spain. You would then be offering people the choice of two places where they could witness you making your wedding vows.

Hi featherbum, congrats what fantastic news, don't worry about people coming to your wedding, THEY WILL COME if it is in Spain, my daughter who lives in UK said blow it and married in Westport Ireland and people did go, family friends and colleagues from work. She and her now hubby have travelled to Portugal, Spain, Wales and Ireland for their friends weddings and have gone all over Europe for hen and stag nights people who love you will make the effort. Just do what my daughter told me, go for it just don't arrange it for July and August when the airfares are top price and you will be overwhelmed at who will turn up
