Just an example (Carrefour is not the cheapest supermarket, and they would doubtless be cheaper in small greengrocers' shops and open air markets) they can be bought for €1.85 per kilo or €2.49 for 1.5 kg.

I don't know whether they would be Spanish grown, though, one grievance the farmers have is that the prices they are being offered are being driven down by cheap imports from countries outside the EU.

We have since found a garden centre selling local produce and they sell oranges at 3€ for 5kg. <60c/kg>

we buy 14kg of lemons at a time for €10 from a woman in the campo in alhaurin. She's got a finca full of trees. She also sells oranges and mandarins for the same price. I think it works out at 70c a kilo?
