But other religions are also to blame for past and present horrors, a particularly big one tells its followers to kill infidels (non-believers). Like me. Why should they want to kill me because I don‘t share their beliefs?

And us Brits, collectively, cleared two whole continents of its native people because the American Indians and the Australian Aboriginals didn’t share our religion and worshipped things like trees and rocks, and God knows what else.

The nuns had a lot of power over the children they had in their care, and they abused it every bit as much as any priest.

The religious want to kill you because you mock them and degrade them by refusing to believe their ridiculous beliefs.

I don't think we did so much damage to the aboriginals because they didn't believe in what we did, but rather because they were seen as inferior and not deserving of any consideration whatsoever.

Nice one, Bil. I don’t mock Muslims, I just don’t believe in their religion.

But, more importantly, treating people as inferior is what has haunted civilisation since it began.

On a basic level, if you go to work in a collar and tie, you look down at people in dungarees. And if you’re aiming a rifle at a native with a blow pipe, you’ll pull the trigger,

Our Queen walked respectfully behind the Pope when she met him, we bow and scrape to our Lords, even Prescott; we’re used to being led, it’s the way things are. Although I don’t believe in any of that nonsense, if the Lady calls on me to put her sword on my shoulder, I will be there, and I expect you to be a bit more respectful after that.

It may not happen.

For me, respect has to be earned. I won't give it ad hoc.

As for the muslims, for the fruitloop fundamentalists of any religion, because you don't believe, that is akin to mocking. You degrade the high opinion they have of themselves.

As for me, I'd love to see the day that the last king is strangled with the guts of the last priest.

I liked what Terry Pratchett wrote.

'Humans have a distressing tendancy to bend at the knee.'

I love Terry Pratchett, he's always wise enough to hint at thinking outside the box. He's suffering now, and I feel for him. His words will live on.

One of my favourites, because it fits in with our discussions on faith, religion and science is this one.

Seeing, contrary to popular wisdom, isn't believing. It's where belief stops, because it isn't needed any more.
