EU fishing

Under the ban, Spain and Portugal continue to cut off fins from sharks at sea, and land fins and bodies separately according to an agreed weight ratio which allows fishermen to land far more fins than carcasses,

Absolutely disgusting practice, though I'm sure Relampago or Cman will be along shortly to justify it.

clueless idiots when it comes to their fishing practices...no wonder I was dodging through so many jellyfish on my kayak this morning perhaps they should think about leaving one or two of their predators behind to eat the things.

Therefore, flatly not to the overfishing, but also flatly not to the defamation in this case to my country. No way

You're in denial, Lampy. You won't read about it in the Spanish press, they're hardly going to condemn their own fishermen, but everyone else is in no doubt who the bad boys are.

Yet as Rambling Rose has already pointed out, things aren't that simple
I just felt like pointing out that the spanish are not always in the wrong and the issue is far more complicated than most people (who just enjoy looking for someone to blame) would like to believe. I could lots of stories of black fish and other illegal practices carried out by UK fishermen - this article is just one example:
Seventeen Scottish skippers and a processing firm have received fines totalling almost £1m for their part in the UK's biggest fraud involving illegal catches of fish.
The men had admitted they were able to sell vast quantities of mackerel and herring by evading EU quotas.

Good old reliable "Spain BAD UK Good" tripe from Aggy there. No doubt the usual suspects will pipe in to back him up as well.

Still, we've been told on here that Spain are the bad boys, and the Brits always follow the rules, so obviously that report is just made up by the Spanish press....

The spanish fishing fleet is not God, can not be everywhere at once. In addition, there are countries who fish more than Spain, as Japan. The Japanese fishing more than Spain, and also they capture cetaceans, which Spain does not for decades. Or the Chinese, they fished all, even eat seahorses. Then I don't understand this mania against Spain...
I am opposed to overfishing, I think the fish farms should replace the fishing boats, and we should eat fish such as carp, which feed on vegetable matter. Would be ideal. Because also can raise tuna in fish farms, but like other species, they are carnivores, and it would be like feeding pigs with chickens
If Spain receives subsidies for fishing, something there must be. It should be profitable, and it is not gratuitous
