Escritura by proxy?
Hi all,
If there are two names on the escritura but one of those is unable to attend the notary's, bank etc can they arrange for all their stuff to be done by proxy? if so how do you go about arranging for someone to be your proxy?
I'm sure I've heard of this being done but not sure if it's one of those "myths" so common here.
Many thanks for any advice

mind you, you almost certainly have to go to a notary to arrange that!
I have to go to one tomorrow to have my signature witnessed to sign POA over to a lawyer in the UK to deal with my dad's will

POA and proxy sound pretty much the same thing. Are you saying that the person unable to attend has to arrange POA through the notary here before?
What happens if the other party is out of Spain already and totally unable to return in the near future?

we rented a place once & the owner's sister had POA to sign the contract - the POA was arranged in the UK

It can certainly be done in UK - we did it. It's a right, royal pain in the proverbial!!!
You have to go to a UK notary (and there aren't that many), he then has to send all paperwork to the consulate in London.
The whole lot has then to go to the notaire/abogado in Spain.
There was a thread on here not long ago about the process (look up power of attorney or similar).

If convenient you can go direct to the spanish consulate in London, much cheaper.
