I understand the agreement thing but why cant he travel, because he has a Nigearan Passport.
And didnt know about the visa.
He traveled via the UK as thie ticket was 58 Euro and the direct route was 300 Euro, but now he cant come, so all is lost.
I understand it can be upsetting, but rules are made for a reason and in these modern times ignorance is no excuse, there is plenty of information available.

Its well known that a non EU passport holder dosn`t carry the same rights as a EU passport holder especially one from Africa.Simply having a passport dosn`t give you free access to the world, we not that free I`m afraid.

You`ll just have to take the hit and make other arrangments.

As per the initial post. The German Police had issue with him going via the UK, not to Spain. He can travel around the listed countries as much as he wants.

Yes, he can apply for a single trip visa. But he may as well just apply for a transit visa. If he had of done this in advance he would have been approved, as all you have to do is prove your onward travel arrangements.

That is what I am saying, he obviously must have a single trip visa so is only allowed back to his country when he leaves the Schengen countries.

Hola! gallerie9,
From your above quote, I am guessing that you are an EU national?

Please reassure your friend and her husband that indeed it is not a racist issue regarding this Schengen visa. It also effects other countries, for example, the Philippines. I know of family members who have to apply for this particular visa (regularly, please note there is a time limit normally) when travelling throughout Europe, regardless of having a British spouse and children. It's a pain, but those are the rules...

When all people travel, they must check that they have in order their visa/passport documentation.

Regards,
Carol

I was just asking a question, I am English with an English OH.

My German friend just didnt know the new rules and neither did I and obviously her husband didnt either.

All I wanted was to understand the new rule, she said they had previoulsy traveled to the UK and around Europe with out any bother.

Yes I understand that. I just let her use our internet to book the air tickets. But some how I feel a little responsible as if I could have warned her about needing this extra visa.
Thanks for your reply Carol

That could have been for the Spanish API system, I didn`t know Ryanair only asked for the Passport No.

It isn`t the airlines responsibility to insure you have the correct travel documentation.

The EU is hyper sensitive to travelers from Africa as they seem to keep arriving daily on there beaches without any.

Surely that should have raised some extra need to research.

I think you will find it is.

If they allow a pasenger to board a flight who subsequently is refused entry due to inadequate paperwork or ID then they get a huge fine.

Required for return, you can do it when you book, there is an option. Last time we got an e mail while we were away, for the next two visits we have already filled the relevant form in. When we lasty went to the UK with EasyJet. they were warning people sho had not given the required info, they would NOT be allowed to fly back to Spain.

And have to fly them out of the country again and if they are not allowed entry at the country of origin they can become a stateless person the responsibilty of the airline.

That dosn`t make them responsible for you obtaining the correct documentation, it makes them responsible if they allow you too fly without the documentation.

If you read the terms and conditions of all the airlines they use this:

"If you do not have proper documentation you could be refused boarding with no recourse or refund. It is your responsibility, as the traveler, to ensure that you have the documentation required to visit the country of choice. ******* Airlines will not be held responsible if you do not have the correct documentation or if you need to cancel your flight".

There only responsibility is if they allow you to board the aircraft without the correct documents, they make steps to insure that there not responsible for your documentation at all other times.

So no the airlines are not responsible for your documentation.

They only insure you don`t enter the aircraft and fly.
