I wouldn't use it on someone I disagreed with, I just use it when a troll just wants to post raw negativity and rudeness.
You just click on their name, and on the right it says click here if you want to be shot of a boring bastard. (more or less.)
Then everytime they post, you see their name, and an empty mesage box which says something like 'This idiot is on your ignore list.'

Add to Buddy / Ignore lists
Click on that... then type the name of the irritating Troll in the box...click save and your Troll free.

It's when it descends into a slanging match, akin to a shouting match, that I find it unnecessary.
Debate is one thing but slagging someone off if they don't agree with you is totally different.
It's off-putting for prospective/new members who probably have valuable contributions to make, that are then lost to this forum.

O god yes. Let's face it these people are almost certainly chosen with an eye to the chance of them falling out with each other and I suspect, expressing a very UK centric view. Regular 'steak and chips' people, you know the type that always order steak and chips wherever they go, and regard a red wine sauce with it as being 'foreign muck'
