Probably a healthy attitude! My problem in Barcelona was that there was no access to police officers for a manual check, I was obliged to go through EES to get through the gates and then an officer. Also strikes me that I have been registered as a visitor leaving Spain but never having entered, so next time I will be entering Spain after I left it, so god knows what the system will make of that. No doubt the machine will implode and I'll be sucked into a parallel universe - hopefully one where Brexit never happened.!
I suppose eventually there might be a recognised system for non-EU nationals with EU residency but it's not a priority for the EU. If Farage wins the next UK general election and rips up existing agreements, god knows what will happen, it's a dreadful thought. |
Re: EES & ETIAS update and explanation
At Valencia there was a sign with ages -12 and -18 directing (EU/Non EU) towards the police booths as I understand there isn’t the need for finger prints for some younger people. That’s the way we were sent.

Re: EES & ETIAS update and explanation
This is the official page in Spanish (same page in English). The text which indicates an exception:
los titulares de permisos de residencia y visados de larga duración In the end it's Spain's border and they may like to send more people through EES than necessary just as they like to stamp more passports than necessary. Edited: I did write something longer based on another exception because I missed this one as it's near the middle. |

I'm afraid it's one of many, many horrible consequences of Brexit. Putting it bluntly, border staff don't care very much and probably think that anyone daft enough to leave the EU will just have to take what comes.

That’s funny. We’ve just got back from Spain . Manchester to Alicante. No Que, no passport stamps and no bio metric checks. Border control probably realise that etias is a shambolic waste of time. Illegals don’t enter by plane and idiot Sanchez lets them stay anyway.

ETIAS hasn't even started yet and as for going through a Schengen border without EES or passport stamping, it's a case of I believe you, thousands wouldn't.

Spain already wants to scrap the 90 day rule for British citizens.
Nevertheless, Spain has no saying on 90 day rule and will never be able to change it, its Schengen rule. Unless, Spain quits Schengen to please Brits, dont think so. |

People will believe when they go through Alicante airport. We went through the family lane. Not one of us got a stamp. Going back in august. See if they do it then. Spain already wants to scrap the 90 day rule for British citizens.

What a complete nonsense! What right wing press writes usually has no reflection to reality or truth. But that has never stopped people swallowing it all.

The right wing rags in the UK get their knickers in a twist about the Brexit travel restrictions which they voted for from time to time and the Torygraph ran a bitter article last week bleating on about "the EU punishing us". It's a popular Brexit trope and this time it came on the back of two former Spanish tourism ministers (not even serving government ministers!) saying they thought it should be changed. The EU are not going to change anything on the back of that in fact they are tightening up the checks for non-EU nationals and catching overstayers. So far EES has caught 7,000 overstayers so it's working well! |
