Default E106 treatment refusal?

Hi has anyone been refused treatment with their E106? I attended specialist on Friday and have been advised to have a small operation. I was given 3 forms, one for ecg, one for blod test and one to see anaethetist (excuse spelling!!) I got appointment for ecg and blood test but could not get one for anaethetist. Was advised to go to INSS in Elche - went along yesterday, was there 3 hours and was told my E106 covers me, got a letter in Spanish to take back to surgery, still not being accepted. I think, they are trying to tell me in the clinic, I am covered for everyday concerns but not specialists and operations. I do intend going back to the clinic with a friend who speaks spanish to find out what is going on, just wondered in meantime if anyone has experienced problems. I did phone newcastle on friday and was informed I should get same treatment on E106 as spanish people

Maybe a silly question but you have registered the E106? if juast showng it to people and not registered would be getting this.

If registered with it then yes you should be getting all and any treatment. hope it all works out for you

I'd second that - and I don't know if this is regional variation, but our registration only lasts a year so you need to remember to renew before you're next unwell 12 months down the line!

The form was registered last year in Elche and expires 1/1/2011. The doctor was trying to get the operation done next month before 106 expires. I am aware I will need private healthcare in January, problem I have is, if the operation is not done I have a pre-existing condition and will have to opt for the more expensive (Valencian) healthcare (270 euro per quarter). If I get the op I don't have a pre-existing condition therefore can get a policy at 54 euro per month. I have been back to hospital this morning to try and find out why I can't get the op, and was asked for my EHIC - trying to explain that this is only for holiday makers and i had to send mine back when I got E106. Just of phone to newcastle - they say i should get the op under E106 - frustrating or what?

This is quite a common confusion. In my experience, many health centres would rather use the SIP card AND the EHIC - they don't seem to recognise the E106 (S1) route.

I have (unfortunately, now HAD) a friend who was being told that he could not have cancer treatment via his SIP card as this was only for holidays! He argued 'till he was blue in the face but it wasn't until we got the consulate involved that they finally recognised the E106 (S1).

I hope it all gets sorted for you, very very frustrating for you as you have done everything you should do, they want us to be legal and do all paperwork then this.

Let us know how you get on, hugs and best wishes

Pre-existing conditions are a minefield when it comes to any sort of health insurance ... and I have found that removal of the source of the problem (by an operation) does not remove it as a 'pre-existing condition'. Mind you, my experience only relates to private healthcare in the UK ...

Thanks for your kind thoughts. After much running around today, looks like I am to get my op within 4 weeks, specialist is trying to rush it through before 106 expires, he tells me as it is an ear perforation, once the op is done - it's fixed - so no need to declare it as pre-existing

Have been told keep water out for the rest of my life I should be ok, not easy when grandson is splashing around in pool and having to keep putting cotton wool in when washing my hair, hopefully straight forward then no more problems

I think you will find that you have to declare any surgical procedure that you have ever had and, yes, it will be considered a pre existing condition even if it is now fixed.

oh no!! that's the only reason I'm going ahead with it - to get cheaper private healthcare!! The docotr said no need to declare, as it is being repaired.

The other halfs heart attack was fixed with stents & to all intents & purposes is probably fitter / better / healthier than the rest that haven't had said heart attack. However we paid dearly with travel ins as you have to disclose "everything"!! Like with the airlines....this is where they make their money??

Linda, remember that you don't have to disclose any pre existing conditions. It's up to you. Just remember though that you can't claim for anything that "they" say could be related to a non disclosed pre ex condition?
