e-bikes in Spain
Our plan is to buy a Finca, which will be 'out of town' and rather than jumping into the car for everything we have been looking at electric bikes over here in the UK as a good solution to short trips and keeping fit. Would we be better buying in Spain? Has anyone bought one and how easy was it. We hope to move to an inland part of Andalusia.
Thanks in advance.

I keep considering an electric bike, but the models I fancy are nearing the £2k range...
What I would say is the range of bikes that are available here is quite basic compared to the UK.
Perhaps for my 50th!

You'll get far better choice in the UK. I saw them locally in Spain and again they were anything up to 2k with a limited choice and it put me right off.

And Decathlon as well

I think if I was buying I would look at the Gtech ebike as it does not have any gears.

Never having seen ( to my knowledge) an electric bike and knowing nothing about them I am thinking out of town, campo style road, possibly hilly.... enough power for when the legs give up ? and where to charge if needs when to get to town and are they built for "off road" type cycling ?

if you can speak to dutch or german people they will tell you you get what you pay for. they dont just walk into a shop like decathlon, they have theres from factory where they made to measure for you.Hence a price tag from about 1400 onward

Mid drive motor, probably Bosch.
Hydraulic disc brakes.
Hybrid style, half way between a town bike and a full mountain bike, so we can tackle a ramblas or two as well as not be too hard work on the way back from the bread shop or bar.
In the UK this sort of machine looks as though they are going to cost £1500 - £2000 each with a bit of discount if we buy 2 at the same time.
We saw quite a lot of cyclists while over last month, so are there specialist bike shops or do people bring their own I wonder.

Bought the Raleigh STrada here for £1400. Brilliant. Up a steep hill you still puff and pant but it makes it easier.

Thanks Grahamg65, just been looking at the Haibike electric range and am very impressed. Will have to find a local supplier so we get the sizing correct.

If you're mainly road all a hybrid does is add weight and reduce speed. If you are only or nearly only road get a road bike. My Strada was reduced from £2,400 to £1,400. Look out for bargains!

I'm all for a bargain frigilianafreddy, my Mum brought me up well. I expect we will mainly be on tracks and ramblas so believe the extra weight (typically 2 kg from what I can see) of a hybrid will be worth it.
