Hi Stephen,
I`m going through a similar thing. I`ve had a few quotes for my flat in Alicante. I bought a bank repossession. I still not had any fitted yet,but getting another quote next week.
I`m getting white PVC double glazing with metal blinds on the outside. They are quite common in Spain. Also I`m getting double glazing doors with the metal shutters on the outside to.
The work suppose to obtain a obra menor(like planning permission) to have new windows fitted. However, I`ve not met anyone yet who has applied for one for new windows.

Aluminium windows are cheaper than UPVC. UPVC windows are popular in the UK as they prevent condensation but the temperatures in Spain are usually high enough to prevent this happening.
We have aluminium windows and have never seen any condensation on the frames.
Many local "Carpinterias de Aluminio" make up DG windows to your exact requirements at a very low cost.
OK, it's 10 years ago, but we had 69 m2 of double glazed sliding windows/patio doors made for €9000. That works out at €130 per sq metre.
