At the fear of mixing threads, the Trabi also needs a fuel additive just to drive.
I was in Germany in October 1989 when it all happened. I had to drive from the western north, Schleswig Holstein, to Bavaria, a journey I had done many times, staying well clear of the dreaded East.
It was the long way round, but having heard of the wall coming down, I decided to drive straight through, in a Mercedes, but a small one.
I got lost several times, and finally asked my way in a place called Hildburghausen, only ten miles from my destination.
The respectable looking man looked at my small Mercedes with a West German number plate and started kicking the side of it.
I then asked him in English for directions and he apologised and directed me to what used to be the border, two days previously.

Sorry Guys when I asked about the Trabant I was a silly reply to the silly one that Madrid made about what sort of car I might have as I did not agree with him about getting keys cut which would open a car, if not start it.

Yeh,.....maybe you should, but you've probably missed the boat.
They are now classic cars,...collectors items.
Just seen a 1979 model up for sale at 25,000 euros!
Those E.Germans who dumped them on the roadside and walked away must be kicking themselves now.
A few forward thinking Brits bought job-lots at the time for a song and have since made a killing.

I think I’ve failed in my efforts to encourage people to be sensible in their postings, the main suspect I had in mind is posting away merrily oblivious to the consequences.
Perhaps I’m wrong, but you get to an age when it doesn’t matter any more, who cares about your respectabilty which goes out the window because you brag about a bought a Thai wife, 30 years younger yourself?
Well, if the silly man posting all that nonsense about himself, embarrassing all the rest of us, was a former fat DC at Thornton Heath, he should remember that some of us saved him from being nicked in the sixties.
