How do I get a digital signature, the Clave thing? I have installed the app on my laptop, but whats next?

A quick read suggests that you register with your NIE and then wait until you receive by post your letter with the CLAVE which is a long number. You need a spanish phone number for the final part and email and the CLAVE. That appears to be it. Not sure how long it lasts for though.

Probably better to get a certificado digital which lasts four-five years.

I’m not sure of this but if you have a cl@ve or a digital certificate it’s rasy to get the other one.

When I try I just get a message that say "Access to this DNI-ID is restricted"..

When in doubt, get the cash out. I used an agency to get mine. I paid 200 to register as autonomo, get on the Padron, get the cl@ve and do all the associated paperwork.

Well you wont have a DNI unless you are Spanish. I think it says though that if the NIE doesn't function you should try your passport. If that doesn't work I imagine you will have to go to INSS or ayuntamiento to verify you. Most people get their lawyers to get the DS for them it's easier.

The procedure for the digital certificate is very simple. Your local town hall will do the authentication.

If you use the Clave as opposed to DC they will possibly identify you through your tax number as well as NIE. If you haven't made a tax declaration it might not detect you and therefore you might not be able to register intially online. Good way of them keeping an eye on anyone.

So what happens to people who are not tax payers?

My wife and I went down to the town hall. They made us an appointment with a girl in another building and advised us to take a memory stick, this so that we could use the signatures on any machine. ( If you put the signature directly onto a, laptop/mobile etc. it will only work on that machine) We went there and she did the whole thing for us totall free of charge! We have used it to download a covid certificfate and it works fine. She said it would last three years.

Your NIE is your tax number.

Not true. It can be copied onto another PC. Or your tablet/phone.

Every resident should make a tax declaration even if you believe you arent liable for tax. If you are registered as a resident you will eventually ( 2017 registrations will be next year) receive the dreaded carta negra!!
