Is it cheaper to get dental treatment in Spain than the UK?

Spain does not have NHS dental treatment, so fillings, routine treatment eg extractions etc will be cheaper in the UK.
However white fillings are done routinely in Spain, whereas in the UK, white fillings are only on NHS where they are visible, otherwise it's unattractive amalgam fillings.
In terms of private treatment, Spain is cheaper than UK

I can give you a rundown of prices as I am just having treatment.

2 fillings 40€
3 fillings 60€

two visits for a total of 5 fillings, these are white fillings not mercury amalgam that you would get in the UK. My son had two white fillings last year in the UK and was charged £198

Clean and polish was expensive here at 40€ but I think the minimum charge in the UK is now £40 anyway!

These 5 fillings were replacements for ones done in the UK 30 years ago and which in SPanish/english translation came out as 'rotted'

I had gone with a bad toothache in my one remaining molar, I was given a course of antibiotics because the infection was around the nerve. Then the option was root canal filling or extraction. It came out and the charge was 20€

I am having other work done which is far cheaper than the UK but I won't go into that.

That is extremely cheap
A filling here is between 30-50 euros depending on whether big or small
Yet the checkup/ clean and polish is 30 euros
As I said, white fillings are only available on the UK NHS for front, visible teeth.
£198 for the White filling in the UK was robbery- how can they justify that- would like to see a breakdown of the charges!
I bet the profit margin was huge!

I would not choose a dentist solely on price.

No. But it is a factor.
Word of mouth? Excuse the pun
People's experiences vary.
It's very difficult to know who to choose when you are new to the area

Very true, cost is certainly a consideration but not one I would put as my first priority.

I would caution OP against selecting whether to have treatment done is UK / Spain on the basis of cost.

I would imagine dentists in UK are much more highly paid, hence the higher charges.
My OH had an unfortunate experience at the dentists ( in Spain) which resulted in the dentist getting sacked.
It has made me really wary, although my present dentist seems really good
If you were having major work done , then it would be a worry who to choose.

I visited a denstist recently for a routine check up and was told i needed 8 fillings! The dentist took out a mirror and tried to show me where these 2 large fillings and 6 small ones priced at €53 (large)and €47 (small) each needed to go. I wasn't at all convinced as i have always visited the dentist (not this one) every 6 months for check ups etc.

So i booked an appointment at another recommended dentist and just asked him to check as i had been advised i needed a 'couple of fillings'. He asked me exactly how many i had been told i needed as he couldn't find 1 single cavity!! I showed him the quote and to say the least he was appalled, he even took x-rays free of charge which prove I didn't need any fillings and have perfectly healthy teeth. He said competition is fierce for dentists here on the costa and it isn't the first time he's seen this type of thing.

The point is this dentist almost cost me the best part of €500 so recommendation is always best to go on!

Private dental treatment is much cheaper in Spain - with two proviso's:
1. It's a Spanish dentist.
2. Not in a tourist area.
