has the crime rate gone up we had are home broken in to yesterday the village could not believe it never heard of to happen very up set.

Lot of burglaries down here at the moment concentrating on the Coin and Alhaurin el Grande borders. Mainly early evening and very professional.
Lookout Hilly, the Guadahorce gang are on the prowl!!!
I have already sharpened the baseball bat and made sure I have plenty of ammo for the old airpistol!!!!!!

I think we already have our own gangs up here!
There have been quite a few burglaries/break ins in the Sevilla area in the last few weeks that I know of...including one on my own property...don´t suppose it is a new phenomenon though or necessarily an indication of an increase in crime levels...probably just that I´ve lived here long enough and know more people now to hear of these things...if you get what I mean.

In 2005 the junta de Andulucia released there were 446 known Mafia groups operating in the Costa Del Sol area.

There have been incidents where gas has been introduced into the air con units of houses and used to sleep the occupants whilst they break in.

Its always been a myth that Spain had low crime rates, its always existed the same as the UK there are many small villages that rarely experience crime, same with Spains small Pueblo`s.

The only place I`ve seen strangers injecting Drugs in public has been in Spain, in Plaza Espana in Seville.

and yeah, I'm sure you know a guy named leaky lee who knows a bloke called Benny the Fence who knows a couple, (he used to be in the SAS you know) who had it done to them, but in truth, its almost impossible to do.

Especially as most aircon units don't actually pump air but refridgerant to internally mounted heat exchangers. You could 'pump gas in' all day and night and all you'll do is gas the outside air.

But let's assume you 'could' do this. It would have to be an anaesthetic gas - i.e. something that displaces oxygen from the lungs. Now, it was a couple of decades since doing this at school, but I seem to recall it's quite a fine line between the 'wide awake' state and 'dead' state. :blink:

Even the Russian security services 'attempted' this feat in a theatre siege some years ago, the result being the killing of a large number of the occupants in the process.

If it's genuinely possible to meter accurate doses of anaesthetic gas into something the volume of a house with no ill-effects other than a 'slight headache', we could slash NHS bills by sacking all the operating theatre staff in the world because they clearly aren't necessary! :rofl:

The lady i rent my rented property from on the costa del sol mentioned gassing when i was over sorting the house. Not in riveria where i am but north by Malaga. Says a lot of houses have been targetted and cs gas being used to shock, keep the owners at bay while they ransack the house.

They have just had an alarm fitted what fills the house with smoke or something if the house is broken into.

Arr right cheers Matt, didnt realise the extent of the rumour going round. Though it is an easy option for an intruder to easily cs gas someone with a spray, hence me taking the story for gospel so to speak.

There was a tread last year about it from memory, it was pretty well argued by them in the know.

Its one of those rumours that taps into our greatest fears really, to be "attacked" when we are at our weakest, most vulnerable.........in this case when we are asleep.

Maybe I`ve just picked up on the myth then, but here`s a link to a news article about a couple in Puerto Banus who were gassed.

It is possible to pump gas on the top end split system units as the Evap is normal placed in an outside location, simply place gas delivery into the duct and allow the air fans to circulate the gas.

You cannot put the gas into the System as its sealed, the reason for using the Air Con is due to the fan and ducting.Whoever thought the Gas was entered into the Refigeration system didn`t read the right myth.A room air volume vents itself ruffly 4 times an hour, this it increased when the air con is used.

Which is why people die of Carbon Monoxide poisoning as the levels arn`t high.

But I`m no expert and could be wrong.

You would need a lorry to bring the amount of gas to take out the oxygen in a bedroom, and more if the door was open.

When 150 people were killed in the Moscow cinema using sleeping gas i didn`t see lorries being used only a few barrels for a huge cinema.

BZ gas is widly available in the eastern parts of Europe.

Carbon monoxide is generated in the house itself and is caused by burning any fossilized fuel.
It is totally safe when vented correctly.
I don`t know the bit about Russia but if it was in the Sun then its got to be true innit.
You believe what you want about gas robberies, but I reckon its impossible.
Just a scare mongering myth, and of course it didn`t give his paper any publicity did it. ;-)

Unless an open flued appliance is incorrectly burning.

You`ve never heard of the Chechen rebels who held 700 hostage in a Moscow cinema in 2002.

650 were rescued alive, 117 were killed from gas inhalation, 150 needed intensive care.

Google it, its been happening regularly in the US for a number of years and you don`t need lorry loads.

hi every one we think it was done to order we are in a small village near sorbas almeria .are house had the metal shutters filed off cooker taken fridge taken tv but nothing els next door boiler off wall. house in next village cement and bricks. the locals are very upset never known it before.so if you see some one with a lovely stainless steel 4 ringed oven its mine.helen .

This happened to friends of ours further inland. Their house had just been refurbished and when they came out from the UK to see it two weeks later everything had gone - solar panels, internal doors, cooker, fridge, house completely stripped. :( Obviously destined for another refurbishment.

I`ve spoken to people in Elvira, Costa Del Sol who have had burglers simply breaking in the middle of the day with people in the house, they`ve simply turned up, walked in and threatened people then help themselves.

I called to a Russian Expat once, who got talking about crime, she warned me that most of the Russians in Marbella are well connected and not the type to piss off, I believed her when her driver carried some shopping bags into the villa.

Malaga city was a no go area back in the early 1980s-1990`s, even this year Interpol listed the Costa Del Sol having 18,000 known foreign criminals from 70 countries, this year a trawler was stopped and searched, they found £200 Million worth of Cocaine, they organisers where arrested on the Costa del Sol.

With 8 million visitors and its location with Gibraltar and Morrocco many groups use it to clean there dirty money.

When the paseta was changing to Euro`s the amount of Spaniards who suddenly paid for property and goods in cash trebled overnight.With many having second homes built using cash from the mattress of many normal people.

It also states he owns an Expat newspaper based in Spain and Portugal, it also quotes a Tony Barnes in Fuengirola who believes he and his family where gassed.

You disbelieve them then.:lol:

On another point, last year the EU started an investigation as to why 25% of 500 Euro bills are found in Spain, mainly in the South and East.

Anybody know what the results of the investigation was ?

If enough people tell you it happens then it happens.

To knock someone out with a gas you would need a sealed area, like in Moscow (and even that failed ) and need to be pretty handy with chemistry, and I don't know too many thieves that are that well versed in Sciences.

Its like the myth of water going down the sink hole one way in the northern hemisphere and the other way in the southern. Its even taught in school, and some universities, but it doesn't make it true.

Your Air con won`t work with the windows open, so there is your sealed area.

The cinema was huge, they didn`t have much problems, also many of the gangs operating in Marbella are ex Russian eastern block Special forces types.

If a gang can counterfeit bank cards and read the pins off ATM`s I`m sure another can work out how to put people to sleep.

Air con WILL run with windows open, it just wont be effective, a very notable difference, a gas released to stun occupants needs a sealed area to be effective as it will either rise or be dissipated with any form of airflow.

Stop reading the Daily Hate, you might learn a bit about what goes on in reality.

Who cares, the point was you don`t need lots of gas and a small sealed area to put people to sleep, everybody in that cinema where put to sleep.

The casualty rates are in my previous post.

There are SAS in Spain, I thought there all in Iraq on £10,000 a week.

Ofcourse aircon will work with the windows open, nope it wont, it will switch on but it won`t work as in cooling you, all that cool air will go out the window, so no aircon won`t work with the window open.

Again back to Moscow.

If you had a million pound property in Spain and were asleep in the night there is a good chance you`ll close the windows to prevent the alarm system goin off at least.

And alot of million pound properties have built in security measures that include gas prevention.

Reality is only allowing you to experience what you see and you don`t see everything in the world, so that makes you less qualified to comment.;)
