Default costa calida

Am thinking about a move further south(from costa blanca).Just want a change so no hurry.Don't fancy Costa del Sol or Torrevieja area but what about Costa Calida.Since I have only passed through I have no real idea of what it is like,so before I make a trip there, thought I would ask for opinions.Ideally I would want to have things nearby like shops, clinic, buses but not needing access to a complex with a pool, just though would like to be fairly near the sea to take in the sea breezes,so not in a mountain village where that may be possible but my ancient legs would give out walking up & down slopes.Your thoughts appreciated.

Cartagena is lovely, pleasant size, all necessary facilties and historically interesting. Out to the coast is La Manga Resort, developed over many years basically good selection of properties surrounding 3 golf courses, tennis centre and so on. The coastal strip is exactly that - a long road of blocks of apartments, many empty for the winter months not very attractive. Base yourslef in Cartagena and explore from there.

Plenty of nice little villages along the Mar Menor. Pretty area but of course busy in the summer quieter in the winter but not as desolate as La Manga
