Surely the decision to remain British is one that the people of Gibraltar are free to make.

Hague needs to hang on to Gibraltar because he promised all UK expats in Spain he would arrange for us to be rescued through there when the euro collapses and we are all destitute.

how can all those expats in the North get down to Gib thru the mayhem and murder ? ? Gib is only useful for those within short distances of the port, look at the problems there were when the airlines were grounded by volcanic ash and multiply by 100 or more Do you have your sailing bag under the bed ready? Remember, only 2 changes of personal clothing, small towel and washing bag. No personal items, jewellery, no pets, animals etc. Wonder where they expect to hire all the boats from - any ideas ? ` |

I seem to recall he was a tad miffed when he found out that the Ark Royal wouldn't be waiting to take him back to Blighty and he'd probably have to rely on the French Navy instead. :( |
Re: Conflict of interest
Come on boys, don't be silly it was a joke. Another one of those Daily Mail reports.
That Willy Vague should even have suggested it just shows what a dimwit he is. Mind you he's also on record as saying that if Scotland voted for independence the Scots would lose out because the UK would no longer promote scottish whiskies in its embassies! As though that was the only good reason against it he could come up with. And no I don't think the euro will fold (just wishful thinking on his part I feel) but if it did, I will be staying put. Certainly not trying to get to Gibraltar from Catalonia. If the residents of Gibraltar are so keen to be british why don't they just pay UK taxes? Personally I think the spanish can have it and Argentina can have the Falklands while we're at it. Oh and lets reunite Ireland at the same time. Then Little Britain can pull out of europe and continue its transition into nowheresville. |

So you think it will happen then?
Too long under the colours to know it is an impossibility, the RN has fewer ships (in number but not in fire power) than Spain, the Merchant Navy is about 20% of what it was 50 years ago. Not many maritime countries have trotts of ships moored up in mothballs, warship or otherwise. Those that are are mostly tankers and of no use to such a "rescue". It would take a really serious internal problem in Spain, such as the civil war, or another Napoleon, to get to that sort of situation. But then we have the Catalunia problem looming .................... Politicians should not make off the cuff responses they could never back up, as we have seen at least one of us is looking out for the bus. But IF it should come to such then as I have said, it will be worse than Ryanscare - one very small piece of hand luggage with 2 days change of clothes, washbag and NOTHING ELSE. Everything you have will be left behind for the jackels to pick over. Cars littered all over the road and people walking. |

From the French of course.

Even her jump jets were sold to the US as soon as they were withdrawn from UK service. Successive governments have been able to do what the Spanish, the French and the Germans were never able to do - turn the RN into a few boats on a boating lake. ` |
