Had a lovely warm nights sleep - now at 7.30am it's 15C in the house and 11C outside. Do I turn the gas heater on or wait for the sun to come up for some warmth?

Re: Cold Weather on the Way?
Outside temperature this morning was 10c with a slight breeze blowing off the land, we find it's always much warmer when the breeze is coming up from the coast.
It's been nice and warm in the sun though for most of the day! :) |

What do you use the rose hips for? |
Re: Cold Weather on the Way?
Rose hips are used for syrup, jam, chutney etc. I just make jam to be honest.

Lots of lovely lush wild blackberries ready in the middle of August up my way, (N.E.Woolieback country), one of the latest areas in the country, so I would guess they were at least a month earlier in some places. Hardly Autumn I would say, maybe just another sign of the changing climate as I can never recall them being anything like so early when I was a kid. |

We used to collect Rose Hips as kids and take them to the local doctors surgery where they made cough medicine from them.

Ever tried making a jam from wild rose petals? On a whim I bought a BIG pressure cooker off ebay. Came from the States, second hand and the postage cost more than the canner. Its really good for 'canning' in Kilner type jars all sorts of stuff from fruit to curry, no worries if the freezer packs up but more importantly its been great fun to play with. Look up home pressure canning, its very popular in America and was always impressed by the home canned stuff I tried over there in the past and I'm surprised its not more popular in the UK. |
