We went to St Tropez once and they were celebrating a battle they allegedly won over the Brits, firing big rifles all over the town, so we kept quiet. ;-))

I do the same (celebrate I mean) every time I go to Scotland, the only problem is choosing which Scottish defeat to celebrate!

From my limited understanding of Spain's past, I would assume that the parade stems from Spain's history. Not everything is about race and racism you know, it's to do with a shared history and culture that forms a country.

I was only joking Sue, I am the first to reming the Spanish the debt they owe to the Moors and Jews for their rich, varied history.

He was from the Nicomedia the modern Izmit region of Northern Greece/Southern Turkey, that much is already documented and died in Lydia, thats why he is a patron Spain, because of the way he died and his martyrdom.
He is the Patron Saint of Alcoi but thats it, and to be fair he is also the Patron Saint of about 30 countries and bodies!
