Let me explain. If on average there are 180 pasengers on each plane (and many times there are much fewer) then let us say two flights every day = 360 passengers per day. Then multiply by 365 = 131,400

Its not your maths its your eyesight ! , i didn't say stansted to jerez, i said ryanair to jerez , you may not be aware they fly Frankfurt to Jerez , this is only 1 flight a day , the 320000 figure includes incoming and outgoing passengers which i concede wasn't clear on original statement .

Malaga to Chiclana is not too bad now with new motorway open , will take approx 2hr 15mins . do have the tolls between Malaga and Estepona but before Algecias you turn right on to the new road and continue to the Chiclana turn off , this brings out by the cemetery, hope this helps .

Yes that sounds more reasonable.
here goes again:
3 flights a day by Ryanair into Jerez = 180 X 3 = 540 X 2 for the return journey = 1080 X the number of days in the year = 394,200 less seats not filled = 320,000. 80% load factor sounds good.

I have used the 'new motorway' a few times and recommend it. For an excellent route guide and estimated journey time etc with maps, look at www.viamichelin.com and type in Malaga Airport as starting point. It gives you the route showing the tolls as well. The 'new motorway' is the A381 which runs from LOS BARRIOS to JEREZ. This stretch of road is toll free. The toll is on the coastal motorway from Malaga airport to Estepona and there are 3 toll booths with a total of about 11 Euros. The road from Medina Sidonia to Chiclana is being 'reformed' when I last used it towards the end of 2005. Once that work is finished it would be an excellent run. I think up to 3 hours should be allowed from leaving Malaga Airport.

They fly Jerez to Frankfurt Hahn not Frankfurt Main airport. Its a good one and half hours from there by coach to the correct airport.

I found this out after I flew with them from Jerez to Frankfurt to catch a flight to Bangkok!! :o

It may be of interest , the figures for people registered as living in Chiclana have been published , 72 643 inhabitants in total for Chiclana , 2 549 foreigners , interesting to me was the make up of the nationalities registered in 2005 , English as you might expect were the largest group ,but 2nd were Bolivians , 3rd Germans 4th Romanians and 5th Moroccans ,

Ouch!! Problem in this world is that it is very difficult for one to view things as others see them. If you scan back a few postings you would see Glynis's about the loud impatient group of people who descended on the Florentina. And if you really bothered to scan the postings you would have seen me extolling the merits of Chiclana. Frankly I don't give a damn to quote Scarlet O'hara. If I get apalling expat neighbours my flamenco parties, nude sunbathing and skinny dipping at midnight will soon show them the lie of the land. However the one's I have at the moment seem very nice and we talk on the phone back here in England, as are the Spanish on the other side. Now if you had seen the contents of my PM to Chakie....
Incidentally curious to know which of my postings inferred that people should not come to Chiclana...other than the one which was tongue in cheek ?? :) :) :)

Hi there - We are hoping to relocate in April - I like the look of Chiclana and am considering renting a property there for a while. Can anyone tell me how far it is from Jerez airport and roughly how much we are likely to pay for a 4bed villa/townhouse in that area. Any tips gratefully received. And don't worry we are not the yorkshire pudding types as mentioned above!! Thanks Amara

I know this sounds like all I ma interested in is shopping (I have just posted on the IKEA thread) but I have just come back from a flying visit, apparently there is going to be a new Carrefore and El Corte Inglis just outside of Novo Sancti Petri, and that is as well as the El Sotillo development. I read it on here, and since then I was told about it whilst I was out there - plans for 500 houses, shopping development with underground parking. The habour is being upgraded and another hotel along the coast. Not to mention another golf course (though I am not sure where that is going to be).

I don't know the geography that well, but towards the southern edge of Barrossa beach and before you reach the lighthouse at Cabo Roche, there is a new hotel about to open. Also there is associated housing around it. The hotel is called "Confortel CALAS DE CONIL" and is next door to the nice 'calas' or coves and cliff area which I hope will be well maintained and not spoilt by any further development. There is an aerial picture of the new hotel at : http://www.confortelhoteles.com/en/index.html that also shows the land between it and the lighthouse.

That's not anywhere near El Sotillo though is it?

Incidentally I've just looked at the new hotel and it says that it will have WiFi access in common areas. Does that mean I could use my laptop whilst sitting in the Bar/Reception?

[ Does that mean I could use my laptop whilst sitting in the Bar/Reception?[/QUOTE]

You may be able to but probably only if you pay the provider for it! Before our ADSL was installed we occasionally used the Wi-Fi access at the Iberostar in Novo Sancti Petri. It was very expensive, you have to pay for sections of time.....6/12/24hour weekly or monthly, cannot remember how much but extortionate.
You can use your own laptop in the internet cafe at Mailbox Etc, you just pay the normal rates, not quite the same as sitting in a hotel lounge having a drink though!
By the way I heard that El Corte Ingles in Chiclana was planned for around the Market area, near the bullring, but like all these things it is only rumour

Got back last night from another week of intensive shopping myself. Have found most things are available on the Poligono industrial estate, the one near Polanco at a fraction of the price at Corte Inglese etc, and a better selection too...superb bathroom fitings at Millan bathrooms. Furniture at Muebeles Guerrero near Arcos Cocina, and tools and DIY and building materials at the other Millan shop. had a great but wet week but a sunny lunch in the square at Medina on Tuesday, food at Bar Restaurant Cadiz was very good, and stripped off on the beach yesterday afternoon too!!

For those who havn't been around in January , it rained on 15 of the 31 days in January , more rain than fell in the whole of the first 9 months of 2005 , in the last 12 months it rained on 54 days in chiclana .

Crap i bet thats my road wiped out again, last time i came over while my place was being built there was a trench about 40m in length by 1.5m deep, caused by that major weather front a couple of years ago that flooded parts of pago

Where abouts have you bought in pago? We are very close to completion. If you don't want to say on here please pm me!

Can anyone advise about a good furniture store? I have been to one and bought some bedroom furiture but I am looking for somthing a bit different, perhaps pine?

Hi NicCol,

I've bought quite a lot of stuff from Muebles el Poligono and found them to be very reasonable. It's a big shop and there is a room off to the left with pine furniture in, but for some reason the door's often closed.

It's on the "furniture" road a bit further up from MacDonalds.

Also off that road (about half way up, if I remeber rightly) is a pine shop called Muebles Vela, it's near the petrol station and it sells pine furniture. All the stuff in the shop is unfinished so that you can choose the stain/finish to suit you and the price varies accordingly.

It's about 2 years since I furnished my house and I am still amazed by how much I did in 5 days!!!

There has been flooded areas in chiclana ,in Pago by Casa Blas / Sopressa a tree was felled during storm, fell on power lines and knocked electric out .

Rain, hail but when you wake up and the sun is shining it's all worth it and in two months I will be swimming again. For anyone in Pago, it looks like the road is being widened past Florentinas towards Chiclana.

I'm not that keen on the furniture over here, just my personal opinion but I think it's all a bit boring and old fashioned.

Can you tell me exactly where this selection of shops is? We are coming to the area next week to look for furniture for our house in Vejer. Would welcome recommendations for the best places to go. We are buying a brand new house and will have nothing apart from a kitchen and the major appliances, so need to equip it totally as cheaply as possible!
Many thanks.

about time that road was widened its a death trap, you can either hit the very large cement truck speeding towards you or take evasive action & steer your car down the large 6ft deep verges either side. Any news on ur electricity situation Glynis

Thanks for that dazzle, Muebles el Poligono is the place I have bought most of the stuff, like you say they are very reasonable. I think there are 2 branches though, so perhaps the one I have been to is the wrong one for the pine. I am starting from scratch so I still have a lot to get. dazzle Feb 6th 2006 7:18 am

Re: Chiclana

Most of my kitchen stuff came from Hipersol. OK it's not designer but it's wearing very well and in my opinion it's equal in price and quality to IKEA but alot more accessible especially in the event of breakages, a consideration if you intend to rent out.

I've ended up with more glasses than I started with because guests have broken 1 and replaced it with a pack of 3!

Carrefours is good too, but has alot of the same stuff as Hipersol with a little bit extra.

The pine room in el poligono is for some reason completely seperate and you you could easily miss it if the door is closed. It's on the left wall on the ground floor, but if it's pine you want it would be worth looking at Muebles Vela, thats on a road off the right (looking up the road towards the bridge) near the waste land car park (I think).

IKEA is good but is equally the mad house you get in the UK.

Hi, we too are furniture shopping and dreading the thought of IKEA, however, they do have nice sofas and at reasonable prices, also other stuff. We went to our local store and decided what we need. Ive made a list with all details and if we do have to brave IKEA we hope to go straight to checkout and order stuff without having to actually go in the shop. How are you planning to get your stuff back to chiclana? Delivery is based on 'the more you spend the more it costs' I am told. When will you be shopping?

I am hoping (everything crossed, but cynical enough to keep grounded) that it will be towards the end of Feb, when we should have completed..I know I know...

We are hiring a Zafira (£150 for the week) so with all seats down there won't be that much we can't fit it-we have one here at home, and it hasn't let us down yet!

If you do go to IKEA avoid Saturdays - It was bedlam? Does anyone know what is the best time to go?

I have been in touch and they do a good service. However, it does add about 160 euros to the cost of things. We may try and hire a van ourselves. Maybe there is someone out there who would be interested in sharing the cost? The window for an IKEA visit would be 19 - 24th Feb.

Hello NicCol
Might be best to check the exact space in your Zafira and if you know what you want from IKEA, find out the actual size of the package. It seems even a sofa bed when packed, is a bit smaller than it is in assembled form, which is useful but it would be a shame to hire the car specifically and then find you can't get stuff in. I think we will double check ours in case it does turn out to be big enough, now you mention it.
