Looking for some suggestions please on cheapest areas to live. Somewhere away from the touristy spots prefererably mountains area maybe 30 mins from sea would be great. Where do you live and do you love it loads ?

Depends what you want you can still get cheap houses inland about 2 hrs from Costa del Sol, I don't think property is that cheap 30 mins inland. But inland nobody speaks English and not much chance of work as opposed to Coast. Best to visit an area you like the look of and view a few properties thats what we did and we now know where we want to live.

My husband and I live in the Costa Blanca region of Spain and we've lived here for almost 3 years.
Are you looking for a property to rent or buy? I would definitely suggest renting before deciding to buy. You'll be able to get a better feel for the region before plunging into a property you may not know too much about AND renting is a great deal cheaper in Spain than it is in the UK.
If I can be of any help, just drop me a note.

Hi there!
We live in Extremadura, which is a very rural area.........and yes we love it!
Although there is beautiful countryside (and mountains) we are at least 3 hours away from the sea. However, there are numerous lakes, reservoirs and man made "beaches" all over the place - which are great during the VERY hot summers!!
There are very few job opportunities in this region though, and you definitely need to learn Spanish (no Ex-Pat community here!)
We would also strongly recommend renting first, and would completely agree that rents are much cheaper than the UK (we pay 240 Euros a month for a 3 bedroomed house).
Good luck in your search - Spain is a wonderful place to live; and the Spanish people are incredibly friendly and helpful, if you show willing by integrating and speaking Spanish (or at least attempting it!)

Hi all, just picking up on a point MnM said, "renting in spain is cheaper than the UK", hope so I have just sold my house and are going to rent till end of May till we come over. Have 3 weeks to find somewhere, just paid a deposit yesterday for a place, £1800 per month for a four bed, what is this place coming to.
£100 for references, £70 to set up Tenancy, £1800 deposit and first months rent up front, £180, that is £3770 before you walk in the front door, cant wait till MAY, Costa Blanca here we come

Not my cup of tea but fantastic views of the mountains and a very rural way of life. There is also a bit of work about in the local tile factories and language is not a great problem if you're happy to work on the production line.
Worth a look in my opinion.

Hi davidashbyash,
The people we used, were Sandra and Pedro Black; a Scottish couple who've lived in Extremadura for nearly 3 years.
Their website is www.extremadura-dream-property.com
They are extremely approachable and helpful, tell the truth and only want the best for their clients. Most importantly, they can be trusted!
They also do that extra bit.................
The day before we were due to arrive at our rented house (which they found for us, after we were let down at a moment's notice on our original rental!) they came to do a bit of light cleaning
and discovered that the electricity had been disconnected!
They worked their socks off with the bank and the electricity company, to ensure that it was re-connected ready for us the following day, bless them!
We were blissfully unaware of the situation as we travelled down here, and really didn't anticipate that they would go to so much trouble for us.
Their website gives details of how you can Skype them; or you can e-mail them and they'll phone you back.
We would definitely recommend them.
There is also a very good English speaking lawyer locally, who helped us with our recent land purchase - and we can thoroughly recommend him too!
Good luck in your search!
