Thanks for the code, never leave it to the missus she booked me on the Plymouth route, should have been Portsmouth, its all been re booked so ok, but the ferry I thinkis not as nice...................

Have a good crossing, unfortunately the weather at the moment has turned for the worse here in Southern Spain and maybe the in the bay of Biscay as well but rain and fog won't trouble the Cap Finistere.

Im not scared of getting on a plane but I am a boat in such weather, really was bricking it after you posted the above ! and the storm has killed any chance of me getting on the boat tonight, the good thing though is that I wanted to go on the bigger ship.

Thats the one. It's a working boat for truckers. We found the 2 berth outside cabins slightly bigger than the BF ones and the linen and bathroom was very clean. However not much outside the cabin so we spent most of the overnight crossing Gijon-St Nazaire in the cabin with our kettle and butties. It looks like a 25hr crossing so we would have to venture out.

We have already booked next years trip Portsmouth to Santander and were pleasantly surprised the the price was about the same as this year this must be why. Competition on this route has been missing since P&O dropped the Portsmouth to Bilbao.

When we booked next years Gijon to St Nazaire trip we were surprised that it was not Norman Asturias now we know why.

Oh! No! which boat have they put on for St Nazaire - Gijon crossing? Norman Asturias was basic enough!!! We used it. It was OK and yes as you say clean. Poor George [dog] spent the time in the motorhome. We went down at 9 o'clock to get him out for a pee against the wheel of a very large truck. The other job was impossible for him on the lorry deck Oh! the engine noise!!! poor boy had to hold on till we found a patch of grass at a service station. We would use again to save some driving on the outward [to Spain] crossing because you are covering some miles whilst sleeping. The other way during the day. No way!! We would rather drive. The thought of 24hrs on Norman Asturias:thumbdown:

The replacement on Gijon-St Nazaire is a boat called Scintu no idea where in the world DFDS Seaways have pulled that from they are huge and operate everywhere so could be Indonesia or Russia but that is what it is called.

Just found it anchored up in Livorno Italy. Flagged Italy but not much detail other than that. It must move soon if the new service starts in November.

Googled it and it is a sister ship to Norman Asturias the only pics show a cabin corridor exactly as I remember it and the open top car deck. Ramp up was very steep and long.
