Default Changing driver's licence

Does anyone know what the process is for changing driver's licence of another EU country to Spanish licence?

Thanks.

Mitzyboy, thank you for your reply. I did search the forum and found a lot of information concerning drivers licences, but not the answer to my question.

I have a VALID driver's licence of different EU country and voluntary want to change it to the Spanish licence because I live in Spain.

Thank you Fred James. That's what I was looking for. Do you know how long time takes this procedure?

Assuming you can actually get into the Trafico office to do the deed, it may take some time (that could be a month or two) to get the new licence, however you will be given a receipt for your old licence and this will be acceptable if stopped by the Guardia.

The only problem that has been encountered by some is if, in the meantime, you go out of Spain and wish to hire a car, then you may have problems getting this piece of paper accepted by the hire company. Keeping a photocopy, preferably notarised, "might" help in these circumstances.

Sorry ......... I'll try to locate it later and then stick it in free beer if it isn't already there
