Car Tax
Help please off anyone. I paid the car tax on my Spanish car for the year May 2008-2009. In February of 2009 I Part ex the car to a Ford dealership for a new car. I now keep getting reminders that I must pay the Tax on my old car which I do not own anymore. Anyone had the same problem or can tell me what I should do please.

yes I had the exact same problem...take the reminders to the garage where you part ex, they should sort it out for you

As you were still the owner on Jan 01 2009 you are liable for the road tax for the year unfortunately.

I didnt pay the road tax on my car for 8 months when I bought it because the seller had already paid it.

Re: Car Tax
What a strange law. So although there was still 3 months tax left on my old car I have to pay another year for a car that does not belong to me. It's a real rip off. I'm now paying for a 2.5 Lt car when I own a 1.2. And they say we are in the EU.... what a joke

Well, not really strange. It's just a tax that is treated as any other annual tax, with the tax year running from 01 Jan. That's why people sell their cars towards the end of the year, to get their money's worth and if you're buying another car it's swings and roundabouts anyway.

AFAIK, yes. If you look at the top of the bill, it will tell you the period it's for. Mine always say "Anual XXXX". The time period for payment varies. Where I live it's between April and June, although I never seem to receive the bill until May.
