Anyone using or used a company to insure a car that you would recommend? Mapfre seems to be popular. Any idea what it would cost to fully insure a Qashqai?

Linea directa excellent, used them for ten years , couple of "bumps" no hassle all fixed. Mapfre will be more expensive but also very good.

You can't be serious about the second part! Age/ Location/ Model and Year/ No claims / Illnesses / Driving experience / Claims / other risks. No one quote is usually the same as the next persons. Suggest you have a look at Spanish Insurance comparison sites on the web. If you can't tick all the boxes on line, theres your chance to get to know if they can negotiate in English!

I use IBEX, for car cover, CASER for my motorbike. IBEX also broker for Caser, so I can use the English speaking claim line if I need that. In Spain, it is not always about the cheapest if you are an Ex Pat, unless you Spanish is excellent in the event of trying to manage a claim.

Thanks. I will try these companies. About the second part, yes. I was. I need a ball park figure. I only want an idea if it’s €400 or €1000 a year. Damned if I can find an idea on the net because they all require more information about a car than I can give because I don’t have the car. I don’t want to buy a car (Peugeot 3008 GT Line or Skoda Karoq 2.0 TDi Style) only to find I can’t afford the insurance. You will have to forgive me my Ignorance, I haven’t bought a car in Spain before. We all have to start somewhere.

How long is a piece of string?
Premium will depend on the car, your age, experience and driving record.
I would budget on whatever your premium is in the UK.

I know that, but you are asking the impossible really! The problem you have encountered and the question you are asking would be the same if you were in the UK, no one is comparable as regards risk, taking into consideration all the factors I have already mentioned...so the answers the same. Speak to Linea Directa, IBEX or Abbeygate with your issue, they will sort you in English. They will probably still ask you the details of the car etc. and your information so you may find that frustrating, but speak to professionals.Or see a car you fancy, clock the specification and reg number and ask for a 'concrete' quote based on your own personal risk!
The only thing I can tell you is that generally, you will find Insurance here more costly, but it normally includes legal expenses and breakdown as a package. How much more when compared to the UK, you will have to find out from a Broker as I said. Some Spanish Companies will allow you to transfer your NCB from the UK (IBEX did for me), some won't.

I have issues with Linea Directa as I have firm evidence they will go out of their way to provide a low/competitive quote to gain your business and, at renewal time, recoup their "lost" income with an OTT amount for the next year!
I stay with IBEX

Very true - but all you have to do is argue it with them and they will reduce it. Ive been doing that on and off for 18 years and my premium is more or less the same is it was when I first took out the policy.

Most of us will shop around for the best, but not necessarily the cheapest(!) quote every year.

Linea Directa employ some very aggressive sales tactics. When I last looked for insurance they did not want to give me a quote in writing and they said that whatever price they would give during a call would be valid during the time of the call only (so basically they push you to decide then and there). In the end I decided to go for Liberty Seguros which were both cheap and friendly. After I had purchased insurance already Linea Directa called me back and offered an even lower price, but at that point it was too late (I also did not want to deal with them any more).
