Cameras!
I need to buy a digital camera but not sure what to look for. Can anyone recommend a good make and anything else I need to know when buying one?
Thanks |

Thanks Amazon normally have them on sale too! check it out! Edit: Ixus 70 is about £115 on Amazon BTW: Megapixels doesn't mean much when it comes to cameras these days, it's the quality of the CCD that is important and both Canon and the Sony point and click cameras are really good! |

Canon Ixus cameras are brilliant if you want a compact point and snap camera!

One bit of advice I will givem make sure the camera has its own battery, rather than the type that are relying on the common batteries in the shop. Even Good Sony cameras sometimes dont come with a decent battery. I used a fair few Cameras in my trade, the most comfortable for me have been the Sony / Canon models, my pref will always be Sony with the bigger screens at the back |

Re: Cameras!
I run with two Sony cameras one is the DSC-F828, it is now four years old, but I have taken some really nice pictures with it, the other one is a newer camera to fit in my pocket. this is the DSC-W200 12 megapixels, ok it helps that daughter in law works at Sony and I get a discount but they are great camera's.

Re: Cameras!
I have an Olympus and a Leica, the Olympus is a digital SLR and its the one I use every day, it was about £300 and is absolutely brilliant, 7mp, and versatile, easy to use and bomb proof.
My Leica is a different matter, it cost a small fortune, in fact I have bought cars that cost less, but the quality is unbelievable and its a joy to use......................problem is that I am too scared to use it. |

Re: Cameras!
Get one with a viewfinder as trying to see anything in the screen when the sun is shining is impossible
|
Re: Cameras!
I went to Carrefour yesterday but couldnt see anything that would suit us, so I will go to our local electrical shops either today or tomorrow.
Thanks for the tip on the view finder, because most of the photos will be taken in the sun  Thanks to everyone else for their advice, and especially VT for being very patient on messenger ;) |
Re: Cameras!
Unless you're thinking of taking serious photos, a digital SLR is probably overkill as they are not as portable as the small point and shoots. If you just need a decent little camera to slip in your handbag then Jumbo had quite a range for under 100 Euros. I don't know if there's one near you but we go to the one in Faro.

Thanks For the money I think this little camera is incredible, the battery life is so incredibly long you forget you have to charge it, it has a big LCD screen and a small viewfinder, it also doubles as a video camera and will capture sound and vision, not just for small clips but for the entire memory, it has loads of pre sets to make life easier on both camera and video, also 3 times optical zoom, all squeezed in a package 9cm x 6cm x 2.5cm thick. Well recommended, oh and by the way , it takes great pictures. |
Re: Cameras!
I have a nikon SLR and love it. Though if i was in the market for a pocket camera any canon will be more than upto the job.

The only problem as mentioned before is charging the batteries, get one with a proper battery in it. |

Thanks The most important thing I reckon, particularly for Spain and beach pics in particular, is to buy a camera with a viewfinder as well as the viewing screen. I bought a Pentax L40 and it doesn't have a viewfinder, makes beach piccies very difficult because of so much sun. And another thing buy one with the lithium re-chargeable batteries not disposable. It will save you a fortune and the battery usable time is much longer per charge. |
