Default Broadband - Javea

My parents are just about to get their first computer :scared: and are looking for internet access. I understand Telefonica do broadband but someone has said it can be a bit hit or miss, and their prices are not very competitive.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a company in Javea for broadband access? They live up at Balcon al Mar if that makes any difference.

Any replies would be greatly appreciated Thanks

Ok the first question is has the house got a fixed phone line? If not then they are stuffed. Telefonica are notoriously slow in giving out new lines. In fact that rises a question… do they?
If you do search on this forum fro either Telefonica or ADSL you should find loads of answers to the questions.

Good luck

Yes, they do have a fixed telephone line. Had a look on here about Telefonica and they do not seem to have a very good reputation as far as their broadband service is concerned.

Someone else has suggested to my parents Swiss Cable but nobody seems to have used them for their broadband, just for their TV.

Telefonica broadband is good, had it for about 4 years and only had a problem once when the wind loosened the connection on the pole.
They own all the phone lines anyway so if you had another supplier and there was a problem you would just double it.
Its not expensive, just over a € a day 24/7 and free local calls.

I have Broadband through Telefonica, it is the lowest band they supply , which is around 39 euros (24/7). Off course they do bigger and better speed sources , but if you just want it for personal use this one is good enough, better & much faster than Tiscali & AOL both of whom I have been with in the past. There are better deals out there (beware) when I was with Tiscali, they just got up and left my area (Javea) without a word , it was a nightmare finding another supplier, but Telefonica were so helpful they rang back with someone who speaks English as my Spanish is not very good , they tell you all offers available, so you can choose the one that suits.
I have been with them for six months without any problems at all.
Personally I would give Wanadoo a wide berth I had major problems with this company.
Good Luck.

Hi there,
There is in fact another possibility for broadband: Swiss Cable! They are not in all the streets in Balcon al Mar, but most of them. Their price is very good as well. Hope you can get it!
Kind regards
Silvia

For an extra €1 per month you can now get 3MB broadband with Telefónica plus the free national calls.

My ADSL connection has been pretty reliable over the past four years but recently it has been prone to short interruptions due to the speed upgrade process.

If you want to avoid Telefonica altogether use a cable company such as ONO or Jazztel. You would need to check first to see if they have cables in your area (look on their websites). The telefonica line would then become redundant and you could cancel the subscription. I cancelled my Telefonica subscription last week - yippee!!! - I´ve been waiting months to do so!

Thats why I deleted the post, she works for the company and breached rule 8 by posting her own promotional URL.

Yes I have tried Google and 6 other search engines before I asked here, but can only get the Swiss site ( ch ), so thought it might come under a different name in Spain

Hi there, I was not aware to breach any rule by answering a question and I think that was not very nice of you to treat me like that. One of our customers gave me your link, for information, telling me to answer, and I answered - thats all! On Balcon al Mar, we have a big problem: Telefonica-lines are overcharged and they don't do any ADSL-connections any more. Many people are not happy with this. That is why we introduced our Internet-Service just a short while ago, on our own cables, and I thought it was a good idea to reply. If I wanted to stay "unknown", I would not have put my full name, would I? (And I would have had about 10 other e-mail addresses without "javeacable" at the end...) By the way: I don't work for Swiss Service, I am the co-owner and always ready to give a good service. The fact, that our name is "Swiss Service & Cable TV.SL" is because we, the owners, are Swiss and our cable-net is international. Our employees are mainly English and so are our customers. Hoping to have cleared up the situation I remain with kind regards
Silvia Schwerzmann
