After a bit of info on above, have been on defra site & gather my dog has to be fully inoculated have microchip & rabies injection etc, but on the site is seems to be set up for animals coming into the UK. So what are the rules for bringing a dog into spain, also have I read it right about the six month rule ref rabies injections it seems to be for coming into UK not going out our or am I wrong

when we drove down we came "thru the tunnel" and they didn´t even ask for our dogs papers.. what a waste of 200 quid

We took the Plymouth - Santander ferry along with our 2 tripehounds their paperwork was checked at the UK side as we boarded although they weren't scanned.

We take our dogs through the Chunnel and there is a special check in counter for them.

With regards to your question; Yes, you're right about the microchipping and the rabies jabs etc., however, you have to adhere to the six month rule in the UK anyway, before they can issue you with your pet passport (if that's what you're asking). The only difference with the UK as far as I know is, that Spain requires your dogs to have the rabies jabs YEARLY, unlike the UK where it's once every two years. Defra also has a telephone helpline and they will know these things as well, if you wanted to double check.

If you intend to return with doggy to the UK at some point in the future then you will need to keep up with the 6 months stuff, having it stamped and signed by the vets.

If you are staying in Spain don't worry. The UK controls are only interested in animals entering.

I spent 1500.00 chipping, inoculating, preparing two cats several years back, we flew them, they security were about to check eveything when they asked "are they coming back soon?" I explained that we were not returning, the cats were to be Spanish, at that point they just let us through after losing interest.

and when u are here the pet will need jabs every 6 months to remain legal - and pet owner found walking an un-chipped / un-jabbed dog can get fined upto 600€

1500 euro as we travelled from Belgium where I was working at the time.
2 x chips, 2 x 2 lots of injections, 2 x pet passports, 2 x flight passes.

And to think they were originally 10 week old ferral cats found under the floorboards of a taxi rank in Liverpool. I purchased them for a tenner.
They have cost me but they are great company and have good lives in the sun

If you are moving to Spain to live, then your pet needs to be vaccinated in your home country and issued with a health certificate from a vet 15 days before you depart.

If Spanish customs have a bad day and wont let you in what happens then ????

In Spain, domestic pets have to be micro-chipped by a local veterinarian, if not already chipped.

The other thing also with dogs coming into Spain, is their breed. In some places dogs are not allowed out without a muzzle on ie like Mijas in Costa Del sol, even if they are a cocker spaniel. Also good to have some insurance, just in case they bite someone or get into a fight with another dog, or get out and cause an accident. Apparently apart from the fines, you can also go to prison if your dog bites anyone. This I learnt today from a Spanish guy who also has a dog and told me to be careful where I took my dog.

Also if a dog is going back to Uk even for a visit, you have to make sure that it has a tick and worm injection 48 hours before entering UK. My dog now has a Spanish passport, but have been told it is easier to bring them in, than taking them back.
