Default Bought Printer from Carrefour at Vicar (Almeria)....

.....and had to take it back the next day as it was faulty.

This is just to say BEWARE! They did not want to give us our money back unless we bought a set of cartridges (which we did not need). The reason they gave was that people bought the printers, used the ink in the test cartridges, and then brought the printers back.

So...printer cost 59 euros. Cartridges are 45 euros. Then the cartridges are put back into the printer box. We get a net refund of 15 euros for a faulty printer!

We pointed out that we did not know it was faulty until we had printed something (six photos, we took them with us to show them the poor quality and damage to the paper), and it was not our fault that other people were dishonest, but they still kept saying no. We stood our ground and eventually the girl serving us was given permission to give us our money back. However she said it was a one-off, not normal, they would not exchange it agin etc.etc.

It is hardly good customer service to refuse a refund on a faulty brand new item bought the day before.

I must say that the young women serving us were polite and I understood that it was not their fault.

We took our money and bought a different printer from elsewhere. I will never darken the doors of Carrefour again.

Hope this helps.

I have had no luck buying items like this from Carrefour on more than one occasion, I would say stay clear when it comes to electrical items.

I got a hoover, worked intermittently, a cheap stereo just to get sky radio, in the bin after a week and my latest purchase a tumble dryer, only cold air coming out, never had a refund yet easier to chuck it, they did fix the dryer after three weeks though, but I got done for speeding when taking it back €400 less 50%.

I know it wasn't the ink that was the problem, but people have to beware that the ink cartridges supplied with a new printer are only about 1/3 full, so they run out quickly and you ahve to buy, sometimes overpriced, new crtridges, but they will last several times as long. We were told this by a computer engineer who had worked for years in the industry.

I have returned goods to my local Carrefour on numerous occasions, faulty or because I had picked the wrong items, it's never been a problem.

However I did return a faulty item to another Carrefour shop and had to jump through lots of hoops to get satisfaction.

So the problem is possibly down to the individual shop and not the group

Yes, I understand the printer is provided only with test cartridges, but we already had a full set of new ones at home, so didn't need to buy any more.

The printer was returned because the print quality was poor and it damaged the paper. We were told we had used too much ink (no, I showed her the very first photograph we had printed - how are we supposed to test it without using any ink?) and that we had used the wrong paper (no, it was the same make of paper as the printer).

Excuse them all you like, they were just trying to wriggle out of their obligations.

I appreciate what Fred has said about it may be that particular store, which is why I stated which store it was in the title.

A couple of years ago we bought a printer from Eroski. When we got it home all of the extras (paper, ink, paper work, disc etc) were not in the box so it was obvious that someone had done exactly what your assistant at Carrefour said people do. We returned it and got another but made the shop assistant open the box and check the contents before we paid.

So annoying when some dishonest people spoil it for others.

I got my printer from a local small shop, I would never buy one from Carrefour

I also bought a continuous ink system off ebay to connect to it. It cost me £50, and it will probably last me a year or so before I have to spend £25 to refill the bottles

We had that happen with the last printer we bought! (from a different supermarket). No disc or leads.

But what were the shop you bought your printer from doing putting it back on the shelf (still without the extras) to be sold again to some other poor unsuspecting sap? Pure dishonesty and very bad business practice.

This exercise has proved to me that the only thing you buy from supermarkets is groceries.

We bought the second printer (different make) from Worton and are delighted with it.

We won't any more, but that is not the point is it? Carrefour's lack of customer service beggars belief....surely refusing to change a FAULTY item the day after it was bought is illegal?

We have continuous ink to our A3 (Canon) Printer and still have all the inks after nearly two years, the only one we have had to replace is the clear one.
However, we want this small printer to be mobile, so it is a bit of a faff if you have the continuous inks.

CIS is brilliant though isn't it

No, I agree with you about Carrefour. It's big store mentality I guess.

Wish my local small electrical shop sold computer things too, they are so helpful and will always go the extra mile for their customers. We buy all our electrical goods from them. Maybe we could persuade them to branch out a bit more, hmmmm have to see how we can encourage them.

I don't think so, I have usually found large stores to be most accommodating. Currys in the UK last year mended our camera under the guarantee although I had lost both the receipt and the guarantee; they took the trouble to look the sale up in their files. They also changed without question our SatNav under the guarantee when it lost all its maps.

I agree though that the best for this sort of stuff is small spaecialist stores but afaik there are none near us that sell what we want.

Dare I say, I think it might be SPANISH big store mentality, or will I get flamed??

(Edited to add:, although actually I don't think it is, we have had (yet another) printer mended under guarantee when there was only a week left on the guaranatee at Boulanger and have also returned things there with no trouble).

Yes, thats in the UK. In Currys a month ago and I actually got fed up of people coming up and asking me if I wanted help. First time was 20 ft into the store. However when I got to the till I had to wait for 5 minutes because no one was about to take my money

However the likes of Ikea, Carrefour etc ... I tend to find that everything is fine until something goes wrong, and then everyone goes off to bury their heads somewhere in a dark place where you cant see them

I buy a lot from IKEA and have had to return a couple of things, absolutely no questions asked, even though the goods were not faulty.
