That is because Spain has just done the same. You could not have the border closed one way but not the other. France has done the same.

On 8 June 1969 Spain closed the border with Gibraltar, the border reopened for pedestrians on 15 December 1982,
At no time has Gibraltar closed it's border with Spain.

Just to be clear.
Is the bridge CLOSED.
I.e. to everything

Or Closed.
i.e. except freight lorries.
and people who have to cross to work.
Presume ferry service suspended as well.

closed except for goods vehicles with the proper paperwork, a lorry fro Eastern Europe was turned back from Portugal last week ( I bet the driver cried). Cross border workers again with correct paperwork allowed. People with booked flight paperwork allowed but only within 24hrs of take off to go to your place of permanent residence.
