Re: Border Control

I’m flying with ryan air from Manchester to Barcelona. The woman checking in the luggage is asking passengers if they are residents and what there reasons are for traveling. A lad in front has been refused travel because he said he was going over for business. She asked me if I was a resident , I said no but I showed her my contracts for my house (made before brexit) and my nie number. That was enough to go through from the uk side. I’ll post what happens once I land in Barcelona in a few hours.

Interesting. Do you still need a Covid test to enter Spain and did she check?

yes. We had to pay for two pcr tests. £180 for the outward trip and will need two more for the way back in. Looking at nearly £400 just for pcr tests both ways. I’m traveling with my GF. I’ve not got through Spanish border control yet. The woman at Manchester airport said that some people have been sent home from Barcelona airport back to the uk. But it isn’t as strict as Alicante where some people haven’t even been let off the plane.

Ok just cleared border control in Barcelona. Didn’t have tie or any official residency documents. The police woman checked all out documents including the nies. The contracts for the house and the appointment for the notary l. There was a Liverpool lady that didn’t clear customs on our flight and she is being escorted by police probably back on the flight. We were placed in a non eu que that was probably quicker that the other ques. Also the pcr tests are being checked. Things seem strict in this airport.

Surely that's correct with no TIE or Residencia?

yes I would imagine so. It was quite surreal going through the airport for the first time since brexit and with the Covid restrictions still in place. I think they were checking everyone’s test on the way through.

You sound pleased with yourselves, you shouldn't be.

Just thought I’d pop this in here as a follow up. I am sure there a plenty here who frequently cross the land border, but I arrived through Gibraltar yesterday with no checks and no stamps. Except for the masks, it was almost as if the pandemic and Brexit hadn’t happened.

Just got back to the uk from bcn. They stamped on the way out. Had to book another two pcr home testing kits for the home quarantine. Had to spend £750 just on pcr tests alone. I won’t even think about coming back now until all Covid restrictions are finished.

Well I guess that's changed your mind about the matter of supposed randomness of passport stamping.
