I may be the only person on the planet who hadn't already read this, but a friend has just lent me "One Day" by David Nicholls and it's the best thing I've read for ages - very perceptive, funny and well written. It's the sort of book I wouldn't want to read on a train for fear of looking like a nutter as I keep laughing out loud.
For anyone who like me must have been living like a hermit since it came out in 2009 and hasn't seen the film either, it's about a couple who meet at university (on graduation day) in 1988 and catches up with their lives on the same day for the next 20 years.

I have this book but have not read it as yet, it will now have to be my next read. Thanks for the warning about laughing, I will warn my OH not to think that I am going mad when I start chuckling unexpectedly.

Yes it's good. I just read few weeks ago. Didn't realise there was a film.

Another friend told me about the film before I got hold of the book (sorry, don't know who is in it). I haven't watched it and don't think I will now, as 99 times out of 100 I always prefer the book, but he raved about it.

I did not know that there was a film either, will get OH to look into it and decide whether he wants to get it or not. Like you I normally enjoy the book more than the film but we could always use a laugh.

Another humorous book. Really enjoyed it. Been out a long time so you may have already read it. He used to write for Have I got news for You. Really funny.
"Things can only get Better" by John o' Farrell
A personal account of a Labour supporter who survived 18 years of Conservative Gov. How he came to realise that M. Foot would never be PM. That vegetable quiche was not as tasty as chicken tikka....

If you watched Timothy and Shane Spalls trips around Britain on the Princess Matilda this is well worth a read.
It's interlaced with how she felt during Tims near fatal leukemia some years back.
What a great couple.
