Which is best value internet in Spain?

If you set up a direct debit then you will have no problems. You can also sign up for online bills - much easier than relying on the postal system.
Telefonica bill every 2 months unless you are on ADSL then it's monthly.
Telefonica in English is a con - they are just agents pretending to be something special. Many people have been charged twice this way.
There are cheaper alternatives to Telefonica but they nearly all lie about the expected connection speeds and if anything goes wrong they blame Telefonica who then blame them.
Telefonica usually deliver the contracted speeds and are more likely to sort out any line problems as they own the line.

They took Septembers and cut us off cos we had not paid August, and apparently it was our fault as we should of checked the DD had been taken out.
Why they could not have taken both months is beyond me, after all a DD can be any amount ?

We've been with Telephonica for 5 months and are looking for an alternative. The service works just fine but its expensive and they keep sending our bills to the wrong address. The first time this happened they cut off out going calls but as we don't make that many and still got incoming calls and internet access we didn't realise what had happened for about 2 weeks. We didn't know that they bill you monthly not quarterly like in the UK. They charged 20 euros to reinstate the service once we had paid the bill then we didn't get the next 2 bills either. So now we have to phone 1004 every month to ask for the bill to be sent to the right address as they seem incapable of correcting it. We're also pretty sore as we paid over 100 euros to Telephonica in English to get the service which was supposed to result in free installation. Telephonica charged another 117 euros when they finally turned up on for the 6th arranged appointment. We think we're tied in for a 12 month contract but would like to change at the end of that. SO if anyone can recommend an alternative in Catalonia (Girona area), I'll be opening a bottle of cava!!
I had vodaphone fast 3g which was very expensive I live near Amposta
and last week had Iberbanda fit a small dish on my roof and have very fast internet and telephone plus 300 free minutes per month for 45 euros their web site link is above. They have just fitted another mast on the Ebra Delta so as you are in Catalonia check their website see if they cover you I also have had telefonica and would rather not

Yes, it seems I made a mistake dealing first with Orange Internet, who were absolutely hopeless, then getting a landline with Telefonica. But one other possibility fascinates me.
I bought a flat with a parabolica on the roof and the TV works a treat.
So it there any way I could rig up an internet connection through the same parabolica?
I am only in Spain occasionally, so a permanent connection is just money down the plughole. What I want is internet for occasional use.

Park your bottom outside any business premises with you laptop, And I bet after a few trial and errors, you can get a Wi-Fi connection as a lot of people don't bother with password protection, In the big towns and airports its free anyway..........Ahhhhh Starbucks what fond memories of London SW1

Yes, but as we already pointed out, and deleted posts on another thread, that would be illegal

You are of course right, I would never advocate such practices,
I mentioned that in passing , But at the airports, Some hotels and coffee shops it is given free.

Just moved to the Costa del Sol and fixing up my flat with my usual creature comforts, including a computer. Then in a fit of madness, signed up for internet with Orange. Orange in Paris works fine, and I have my Spanish mobile with them too, but for an internet connection - forget it. The modem was dud, there was no service in English (which is strange, since half the Costa is Brit) and there seemed nobody to answer complaints, or arrange a modem swap. So I cancelled the bank orders, returned the bag of crap, and am now back on Square One, wondering which way to turn. Some say Telefonica is good, but it's also expensive. Anyone got any good ideas??

Hi all, I live on the outskirts of Denia I have had a battle with Telefonica over the years. Twelve months ago they came to ME and said I can havr ADSL line at half a meg/ 500k known as ADSL rural. took them up and fair do’s it works OK. The cost is 39 euros. I did a bit of digging and found out the reason I can get it is because there is a European directive that state that member countries must supply a basic broadband to rural areas. And the suppliers get subsidies. I have tried to verify this but not been able to yet.

Hi
Does anyone know if it is possible to get the Vodaphone type dongel for lap top connection on a "pay as you go" basis in the Ayamonte area. I am in the area only 3/4 times a year so don't want to pay a monthly contract.

Hi, Tarn, if you´re about. A couple of months ago I was looking for advice on the best internet connection around the Costa del Sol and you were most helpful. I want a ´come and go´facility, which is to say that I am away for some months on end, and so do not want a permanent connection.
You recommended me bring in an unlocked mobile phone with a USB connection and I have done this. I guess my question now is this:
Is there any better way of connecting to the internet that may have arisen since we were last in touch?
If not, I´ll happily try that Yoigo SIM card, but do I still need an ISP or not?
cheers and looking forward to tapping into that massive info store of yours.

Don't forget Yoigo prepaid mobile SIM cards (€10 apiece in The Phone House)
Most convenient if:
The caveats:
- €1.2/day (different schools of thought about if with/without VAT)
- no cost the days you don't connect
- minimum charge €6./month
Most convenient if:
- You own a laptop and want to be connected when on the move
- You don't connect everyday
- You just want emails and plain web browsing (i.e. no P2P, no video downloading...)
The caveats:
- You need to use it through a non-SIM-locked UMTS mobile phone (or data card), connected to your PC through Bluetooth, USB cable or else
- You need Yoigo||Vodafone UMTS/3G coverage (GSM won't do)
- Bitrate varies btw 64kbps -- 384kbps. Enough for web browsing but that's it
It comes with a 24month contract, but they seem to think it can be used with a Yoigo card without needing to be jailbroken, since such a use does not contravene the terms of the contract. Sounds too good to be true, but what do you think? Would it work in Spain to give me occasional internet?
