Re: BBC RADIO moves to UK beam
now if I remember my theory correctly
you can only receive as many pixels as your receiver can handle, so it doesnt matter how many are transmitted, 1000, 10,000, 1,000,000, 100,000,000, if your tv can only receive 1000 thats is all you will get.
But then isnt Sony a manufacturer to the world for television sets ?
Obviously there is something in this for them.

Some Spanish hotels do. We were in a hotel in Vallodolid last week and the hotel had all the Spanish channels on DVB and when I asked about English channels they said switch to analogue and sure enough there was the BBC news 24 and CNN how they did that I just don't know.

THE BBC WILL NOT ALLOW any of their programs to be shown outside of the UK .i didnt say you did not see it but they were showing it ILLEGALLY .thats why as people were saying in large HOTELS and CRUISE ships you cant get any
UK only channels ... ´FREE´ channels normally means that the signal is not scrambled but it still is someones property and only if THEY ALLOW you to watch it .THE BBC DO NOT GIVE PERMISSION OUTSIDE OF THE UK

Re: BBC RADIO moves to UK beam
2f looks to have ony just arrived at its test location..
They are not trying that hard are they, considering the beam their channels are on are available outside the UK.
There is a different between "the broadcasters not being allowed" and "actually receiving".
Many Sky channels can be received on a 60cm dish in most of Europe.
Again, in Spain and the EU it is NOT ILLEGAL to receive free to air channels from other EU countries.
So they cannot be showing it illegally.
So there is no legality issues or problems with reception or watching free to air channels like BBC ITV C4 or Fives outside the UK.
The broadcasters may not like it or have the rights to do so, but it is not illegal to receive those channels if they are available.
You cannot be prosecuted for receiving or watching FTA channels form another EU country, so I have no idea why you continue insising it is illegal? If it is illegal, please post the part of Spanish law that states that it is illegal to receive and watch free to air channels from other countries. If it does exist and you can post a link to that Spanish Law, then I will just counter with the AVMS EU Directive that states it is not.
True. The BBC do not own the rights to transmit content outside the UK and ROI.
But they / Freesat, acknowledge that their is signal overspill into areas where they dont have rights, but their channels may still received.
"Can I receive freesat outside the UK?
freesat is a TV service for viewers in the UK. Freesat equipment is only sold in the UK and requires a UK postcode to install. However, it may be possible outside the UK to use a satellite receiver to pick up channels available on freesat. We recommend you take advice from a specialist satellite retailer or installer."
From the Freesat website. Note it does not state that Freesat is illegal outside the UK.
Freesat is a Free to air system designed for the UK.
Signal overspill from the satelites the EPG and channels are on mean it cannot be limited to the UK only.
And Freesat (the freesat EPG) is on.......the Eurobird / Eutelsat 28A pan European beam, not a UK beam.
So if they wanted to limit freesat to the UK why have their EPG on a Pan European beam!!!
Dont confused Freesat the system to receive channels, with the channels available on freesat - two seperate and different things.
But, again () that beam is not only limited to the UK and overspills into europe, and is receivable even in Spain with a suitable sized dish. Most of FRance and Germany can get it on an 80 or 100cm dish. So although they are trying to limit its signals, it can be over come with a suitably sized dish.
If they really wanted to limit the signal to the UK only, they move it to a KA beam, like the SAORSAT system in ireland, where the beam is so narrow it is very limited to Ireland, and even in areas of the western UK a 2+m dish is unable to receive it.

Re: BBC RADIO moves to UK beam
the poster said they did not have BBC UK CHANNELS in their hotel only BBC WORLD ,so HOTELS AND BOATS cant offer it even if they can pick up the signal
it could be in a few weeks time you will have to spend your money on a bigger dish to keep getting the same service because the OWNERS of the service wish to stop you watching it by making the signal less avalible outside the UK

The service is a UK ONLY service .the fact you can watch it is not the point

Nobody is talking about or disputing the fact that these channels can be watched, it's your use of the word illegal. It's NOT illegal, although, for example use of a Sky card abroad may be in breach of the terms and conditions of its issue to a customer, that's all it is - a breach of the terms & conditions of its issue.
For something to be 'Illegal' it requires backing up with the relevant law or regulation. Can you quote any?
