Are you talking about something different? Is the TV iPlayer not the same as radio which is available outside of the UK and where any programme can be accessed at any time? It sounds as though you are talking about current output being streamed on the internet in real time rather than video on demand. Could you clarify please.

I have been using successfully for two months VPNUK, it cost £8 Per month and you can share with up to another 6 people, so cost is about a £1 per month, works on BBC/ITV/ CH4 and Ch5 on demand,
the quality is good and no buffering delays etc, infact as good as if in the UK,
the payment is monthly so no contracts to worry about and you can stop it at anytime. recommend you pay by PAYPAL and not a Credit Card as they can be difficult to stop regular payements from !!!,
Some content cannot be shown over the internet due to contractual reasons, IE premiership football, but apart from that very good service with live support online!! It easy to set up , just download a small program, add passwords etc and off you go, they even offer a free set up service for you,

Just for info, BBC channels are currently off the air, but ITV (Currently showing Corrie, and Ant & Dec on ITV2) the others are working ok

This is five live, the UK's home of live news and live sport. Unfortunately, due to contractual obligations, we cannot bring you the event that's currently live on air. However, you can hear it on 909 and 693 am, on digital tv and on digital radio. There are many events that we do stream online. To find out which events, check the listings online.
that means I couldn't even hear it on the internet if I were home in England? That nobody is hearing that over the internet? That it's not a proxy failure?

You heard the Manchester United versus Wigan match whilst it was being broadcast from 2000 to 2200 GMT today on Five Live and not the stupid looping message that it's not available due to contractual obligations?

it will also depend on how you are accessing the streams.
for example many programmes are unavailable on ITV.com for streaming even if you are in the UK. however some of the "tvabroad" services you pay for say they can get you 24/7 all programme itv service. so they are not using the itv.com streaming services, but must be getting the signals from something like a freesat or freeview box and "converting" it themselves for internet distribution...which is illegal to do if you do not have permission from the operators of the channels, which i would bet they do not.
so the same may apply to Five Live....they do not have the rights for commentary on their web service and hence the message saying service unavailable. but someone (an enterprising soul) may have accessed the Five Live signals (via DAB or on a freeview box) and are piping that to a private network server...again not legal under copyright or proframme contracts otherwise five live would be available on the fivelive website!
i did send a question to one of the tvabroad companies that say they give 24/7 itv and asked them where they get their ITV feed from, if not the ITV webstream where did they get it from as the company say there were 100% legal and obviously they were getting a "ripped" feed from somewhere (ie illegally)...needless to say they havent replied.
not opening a debate about this, you pays your money you get what you get while you can etc..just informing of how they may be doing it.

In terms of legality as far as I know, Zattoo, conform to broadcasting requirements in country of use and have the proper contracts in place, (BUT) for use in agreed territories only,,, The VPN (which is seperate issue) of course gets round this.
There are many web based providers of " legal" sports services, but as stated you pays your money and you takes yer chance""!!

Thanks Solar Whizz - I just set up "My Private Network" and just tried BBC iPlayer out with a rather whitty episode of the new Reggy Perrin series (Martin Clunes).... This works a treat on my 2MB broadband and dead easy to set up in Windows XP.
The true test will be when the live footy / sports is on - I guess it'll slow down then?
It is £5 p.m. for those interested !

... and just a thought!
learn how to switch it off / on (it is easy). I do on-line banking and not sure if that's a good idea via VPN ?!?
